I absolutely loved that book and have been a huge fan of Dan's work ever since. One of his many strengths as an author is his ability to distill decades worth of strength and conditioning knowledge into prose that is enjoyable to read and accessible to everyone. My favorite thing about his writing is the way that he keeps "training" in proper perspective and is mindful of the fact that many readers are balancing the pursuit of their fitness goals with families, work, and external stressors. "Attempts" is a wonderful collection of essays and has a lot to offer anyone seeking some sage advice on fitness and life. Review: Bought for the Post Deployment Plan, stayed for the rest of the content! - After hearing about the Post Deployment Plan on one of Dan's videos and hearing it was in this book I quickly purchased it and thumbed through it to get to the program. Going back and reading each passage though gets you to the true value of this book. Dan speaks with sage like advice that really is obvious and practical, but is lost in today's age of "innovative and hardcore". This is a great book and should be in everyone's collection!

This is not a book about fitness
I don't want to detract from the quality of the absolute gold-mine of training information in this book (and all of Dan's books, media, etc). So, instead of envisioning the training information as somehow "lower", take into account how insanely valuable it is and then consider this. The wealth of the Dan's training information pales in comparison to his wisdom about life itself. Encapsulated in Attempts is a blueprint to improve yourself as a husband, father, neighbor, citizen, and human being.

Dan John's Key to Progress
Mr. John is mastering minimalist writing. This book is a prime example. In few words it delivers a lot of value. In this same context Mr. John repeats a lot of maxims that provide great value. The repetitiveness used to be bothersome until I came to the realization - he repeats things because they are important. I'm in agreement with the other reviews. His work 40 Years and a Whistle and Attempts are more than books on fitness. This work is similar John McCallum's - The Complete Keys to Progress. It provides short chapters that translate important points. This book will be fun to come back to and re-read every couple of years. This can be completed in an afternoon and is well worth the time.

I was eagerly anticipating this book, and it did not disappoint. When Dan John speaks ( or writes) I listen. No fluff - just great advice to hit your training and life goals. I have every book Dan has written and I get new insights and inspiration every time I re read them.

This is fun to read and to muse about... It has more of something like hmm Literature than Dan John likes to damit. I Love His books

Dan John draws upon six decades of training and life-experience to deliver a book that is both intensely personal and full of matter-of-fact, no-nonsense advice for living well. He is extremely generous with his time (check out his Youtube channel as well as DanJohnUniversity.com) and that spirit of generosity is very much in evidence here. This book will satisfy Dan's longtime readers, as well as those new readers who are looking to adopt a systematic (read: reasonable, effective) approach to exercise, diet, and life.

Gran libro.

Dan writes something that is usually boring in an interesting way and when reading this book it just makes you want to try lifting things.
