Q: What are they made of?

Yes the middle is silicone, but the handles are hard plastic

Yes it does! I love it so much.

It is a very nice one piece pack that works very well. The picture shows it as collapsed and expanded. Not as two pieces.

Q: Can you use this to strain grease out of cooked ground hamburger?

If you use it for this make sure it is warm to cool. Also I believe the holes are to large for ground beef.
