The cutting edges are induction hardened to approximately 64 HRC and will cut soft wire between 1.0 to 6.0 mm; medium hard wire such as nails and wire pins up to 4.0 mm hard wire up to 3.55 mm and piano wire up to maximum 4.0 mm. The nipper utilizes a single joint requiring less hand force allowing for smooth cutting. Review: Outstanding Cutters! - I use these in the shop mostly for nail pulling for 16-23GA nails. I bought this tool and a Dremel tool to cut protruding roof nails. This bolt cutter cut through hundreds of nails with relatively ease while the Dremel tool took a long time just to cut one nail. I also like that its cutting blades are in perfect orientation to cut the roof nails sticking out of the overhang relatively flush.
