Why do these not fit for the other type? The diameter of the rings too small?

They were too big for my 2017 Lariat

My answer would be, if the Mustang is equipped with round type control buttons. I'm not sure. But, I ordered this set for my bother and he owns a 2020 F150 Pickup and they fit just fine. Take a picture of the interior of your Mustang and send them to the manufacture and I sure they can answer this better than I can.
