Spice and Wolf, Vol. 16: The Coin of the Sun II - light novel

Great book. It is one of my favorite series, I totally recommend it

This series an example of what happens when a really smart, knowledgeable person (e.g, like J. R. R. Tolkein) turns his hand to popular entertainment: Virtues: 1. Fascinating "cross-species" love affair. 2. Fantasy setting, but firmly grounded in real world history and science (economics and the early middle ages); so the writer never can take the easy way out and just make "magic" solve problems. 3. Highly elliptical conversations between people who are being cagey—or just typically Japanese (keeping their feelings to themselves); so you have to read carefully and think about what you read to follow what's going on. 4. "Strong" woman character (literally!), as is de regieur these days. 5. Was made into an anime whose visual beauty and music totally sucks you in, so you want to buy the books too. I can't see how I'll ever find a fiction experience like this again.

This is one of the best LN's or even books I've read. Lawrence and Holo have become entangled in the biggest, ugliest crisis to face them yet. Separated for a good chunk of this book, Lawrence faces some harsh facts as he confronts the unhappy fact that merchants can't solve the worlds problems. Holo also has realized her limits as the ancient world continues to give way to a more populous one. The ending pages have the signature bitter sweet feel of the romance between Lawrence and Holo, as they both accept their limitations and have to choose one path from many.

Very enjoyable and wrapped up the end of the series. While trying not to be a spoiler, I only wish this part of the story had been more complex and had more focus on the inn development and more background/development of the "cook". I wish the anime would have continued with the books.

What a conclusion! The Debau Company conspiracy reaches new heights in this book, drawing Lawrence and Holo into the biggest conflict they've ever been a part of. The romance between them is at its peak here, creating a very fulfilling end to their character arcs. The book's plot is great too - I was on the edge of my seat the whole time. It saddens me that there's only one more book of Holo after this. Also, this sucker is 300 pages long, so you're in for a looooong read here.

I loved this series so much. Although there is an epilogue book after this one, this is technically the last part of the story. Fantastic.

I love every book of this series thus far. if you have read up to this book I'm pretty sure you will enjoy this one equally as much.

A obra termina na melhor forma possível para os protagonistas e também para vários personagens secundários. Apesar da série terminar e deixar alguns pontos sem explicação, esse fato não deixa a obra com um final insatisfatório; pelo contrário, gera possibilidade para uma continuação.

After a long journey comes to an end it's quite difficult for an author to describe exactly that end. It's hard to make it satisfying but still realitic. I think Isuna Hasekura has done that perfectly well in this last novel of the main series of "Spice and Wolf". With this very series he has given us a wunderfull impression on a medieval world where there is no need for active magic but still possessing some moments that feel like that. I myself as an author feel deply inspired and am happy that after the long time since i started reading this series we came to a very good end. I can only recommend reading the whole series.

The splendid conclusion to Isuna Hasekura's series. I must say, I was rather anxious about the ending: how will he satisfyingly end a story as... intense and passionate, yet also ground to earth and realistic as this one? Could there be a satisfying end to something you don't want to see end? The answer, for me, was yes. It ended and it felt satisfying, reaching... yet not final, as if to say that this story is one of many perhaps? Or perhaps to stress the fact that all and any stories are part of History, which is another way of phrasing it really. I am, of course, aware that there is a 17th volume, which I haven't read yet, but since the author intended for the 16th to be the end and the 17th to be an epilogue, I shall threat them as such. And so, whether you know of Spice and Wolf or are a stranger to it, I recommend it with all my heart and mind (in this order). It is old and new, both refreshing and nostalgic, both romantic and pragmatic, both fantastic and very real. And all of these characteristics come and go, meeting and joining while remaining very distinct. In my opinion, Spice and Wolf is a true masterpiece. Isuna Hasekura, sir, I hand it to you, and to Holo, and to Lawrence for this marvelous adventure.
