Ubuntu 20.04 LTS Desktop: Applications and Administration

I bought this "manual" since I am installing Ubuntu on a laptop. It is very informative and just what I needed. I am getting away from Windows so I needed to learn all about Linux. Just what I needed to get familiar with the new operating system.

In my opinion, this book is written for someone who asks a watch maker what time it is and he starts telling you how many gears you need, how to paint the face and put on the numbers but never gets around to telling you the time. The guy definitely knows his stuff, just doesn't really convey what you need to know vs what is good to know if you're building a server farm. It would also be very nice to have an included disk with the basic Ubuntu on it along with some extras that would come in handy for users that want a good office set up. Seems to me that now may be the best time we're ever going to have to throw Microsoft off it's throne. But not with this book.

I purchased the Kindle version of this book for my Intro to Linux class. This verzion is God awful to read from and I find myself having to google things often because the author explains things as if the reader already has base knowledge of what Linux is and how to use it. It's not a terrible book, but could be improved upon.

The best book to Ubuntu intermediate level users. Explain concisely instalation and use. It's user focused. Not excessively thecnical. Has more useful information than an other book I read recently. Five stars.

Very useful book especially for beginners.

The author obviously knows a lot. But his explanations are half hearted. In my case I was interested in knowing how to edit menus and group them in applications inside show applications like we do with utilities. From his book it was clear he knows how it can be done but I figured out the actual steps by googling, writing on the related forums largely because his explanations were vague and not detailed enough. How best to explain - he sounds like a skilled artist who is not going to be patient when it comes to detailing the hair on head of subject in his portrait. Had half a mind to return the book. But did not.

Waste of money as the book will become outdated in 2 years. better save the money
