This impassioned 1964 quintet session weaves post-bop and free jazz into spirited original compositions by Jackie McLean and young trumpet sensation Charles Tolliver. They were joined by Herbie Hancock (piano), Cecil McBee (bass) & Roy Haynes (drums). While the style was considered new at the time, the searing cry of the blues is ever-present in McLean's brilliant alto saxophone playing. The Blue Note Tone Poet Series features all-analog, remastered 180-gram vinyl in deluxe gatefold packaging.

Perfect Pressing
This is my second Tone Poet purchase and it is as close to a perfect pressing as you can get in 2020. This is the gold standard for modern audiophile releases imo. Clean, full sound that really dances out of the speakers with no noise. The amount of garbage reissues released in the last five years or so is appalling. I hope labels realize that it is not worth squeezing every cent out of a release and maximizing margins no matter what. If you release quality, people will enjoy them and buy more. A release this perfect at this price point is a huge blessing for those of us that still go through the effort to spin these things. My only regret is that I did not start collecting the Tone Poet series earlier.

Excellent sound, presentation and pressing
My first copy came with a weird noise in the last 10 seconds. The replacement is flawless. Everything in this release is excellent! Another incredible tone poet release.

It's time!
Su McLean c'è da dire poco, se non che è stato un grande artista. Qualità del disco ottima. Trattasi di versione audiophile presa da master originale. Consigliatissimo.
