Realme X50 5G - Smartphone 128GB, 6GB RAM, Dual Sim, Ice Silver

Like many others these "Offbrand" smartphones always appealed to me for their blantent value for money. I was due an upgrade from My iPhone XR at the end of January 2021 and thought I would give Android and Realme and chance. Honestly I can not complain about this phone in anyway whatsoever! This thing really shocked me at how much phone you get at this price point. Snappy Ram & Processor - Anything I threw at it, it loaded up in an instant no problems with any I installed. Camera - I loved it, super crisp and with the HDR, Low light performance is great and the dual selfie camera I was so impressed with. Battery/Charging - Can't fault, Charges fast, last all day EASY, Also the Nighttime Battery Saver is so good uses not even 5% overnight. Also comes with a thick quality cable and charger block. Screen - Great colour reproduction from the IPS Display, Super Smooth @ 120hz. Face / Fingerprint ID - Great no issues and probably more reliable than my iPhone was at this. Audio - This is the only thing I would change about the phone! It has a single down-firing speaker, don't get me wrong it sounds great and with Dobly Atmos but the Realme 7 Pro has dual speakers top/bottom and it jus makes the listening experience so much better in my opinion. As I tend to watch alot of YouTube. Esthetics - I think the phone looks amazing, the Jungle Green is stunning looks much better in your hand. Talking if in your hand, I like the size and the added weight is not a problem most likely from the aluminium skeleton and gorilla glass front and back I believe but still Not a Heavy Phone imo. Feels premium with good build quality. I'm just blown away with this phone! I feel stupid for paying £600+ on mediocre phones all these years! I would recommend to anyone thinking of buying one to do so as I'm sure you won't regret it. With Amazon Returns & 2 Year manufacturer's warranty what's not to Love. I also purchased the X50 Pro 5G weighing the pros and cons between the two will be a struggle I think!

Excellent piece of hardware. I have been a mobile phone user since 1997..... I have change lots and lots of devices since then. Some of them were boring but did the job and some the exact opposite. Previous phone was a Huawei p10. Well this one is far better than p10. Battery lasts longer. It feels flagship fast. It's 5g. Screen is not smiled but great. Far better than half the apple phones which cost twice. Camera is good. People say that it's not flagship good. However when I checked the pictures I took , I was shocked by their quality. Portrait mode rocks, night mode is above average (to me it's great - kills the apple se). Has wide angle (again kills half the apple phones). Comes with 128gb but cannot take SD storage. I can love with that. Its a bit big, but has one hand mode for those with small hands (I found it perfect to use and have medium size palms). Perfect for movies although has one speaker only. As soon as you connect a pair of earphones (either through usb or Bluetooth) it's great. Mono speaker is very loud which is good news. UI is nearly clean Android (for the purists - me included). I was between that and Nord, but his one won me as the price was 80 quid less and Amazon offered it with 5 installments at the time (beat that oneplus!). Since I got it, it has two security patches (the July one and the August one). Therefore we have good signs/indications of support. Mother realme will support it with two major updates and three years in total. Package comes with 30w fast charger, which can fully charge the device (from zero) in less than an hour. We are talking about premium features that other brands (Samsung and Apple for example) will charge extra. Hope this helps people decide. Of course if you are an iOS ecosystem fun, then this is not for you. Now that price dropped a bit - got for it.

For the price I think this phone is incredibly good! I like the finger print scanner on the side of the phone, I personally don't like the ones on the screen. The battery is amazingly good, watching HD videos for 6-7 hours, the lowest its dropped to is 35% and it charges from almost dead to full in under an hour. I couldn't see a reason to buy the Pro version. I am unable to test 5g as I do not have it in my area, but may update when it comes through. Connects with 4g great and WiFi perfectly. The green body is very nice and I feel unique to this phone. It has a decent weight to it, feels very nice in the hand. The screen is a good size, personally a bit to big for my pockets but that is most phones nowadays. It feels very fast, had no lag running any apps really, not a big gamer on my phone but I have few doubts it would handle alot of what it would run. Had a few updates that didn't change thr performance. Still no realmeUI 2.0 as of March 2021. But been told all phones are kept upto date for 2 years. So maybe not full android 11 but I hope for some of the features!! Available on other realme phones. The camera is one of my most favourite parts of this phone. I'm not sure how it differs to other phones of the price range but it deals with low light incredibly. Good setting that do seem standard on android phones now, but again for the low price I'm very happy with what it is able to do. All the lens look good, video in 4 k is crisp and clean. The slow mo and time laps work really well. The only things I don't like are No headphone jack (very normal now) Couldn't get it to work with USB c to 3.5mm for and i rig (can't record dj mixes but not everyone would want to) No memory card (very good internal memory) Id definitely recommend for a "simple" phone that works Or as a very reasonable smart phone that IS NOT lacking in features imo

Let me start by saying that the nearest equivalent currently available to this phone is the OPPO Find X2 Lite 5G, which is priced at £399, making this phone an absolute bargain! I’ve had this phone since yesterday and I think realme is definitely in the game now. Having bought realme 6 Pro for a relative I can compare both directly which would be a fair comparison I think given that both (Surprisingly) are not only made by the same manufacturer, but also selling for the same price. For the £299 you get an identical shell from the outside (Although X50 does not have the 3.5 mm headphone jack, they also decided to lower the flash light at the back by a few mm) but otherwise almost identical to look at. The X50 is also a bit lighter on paper, although you’d struggle to feel an actual difference. For the same money you get the convenience of having a more up to date chipset (Snapdragon 765 vs 720 for the 6 Pro), a 5G antenna and a slightly faster 120 hz display (Although to be honest? Nothing is wrong with 6 Pro’s 90 Hz display). You do however lose the 3.5 mm headphone jack as I mentioned earlier (Only useful if you don’t have a bluetooth headphone or a USB type C one), you also lose the Micro SD slot (But with 128 GB of storage? Again, I personally won’t miss it), downgrade to a 48 MP main camera instead of the 64 MP on the back of the 6 Pro, and last but not least, you lose 2GB of RAM, which haven’t affected this phone’s performance so far. There is a minor difference in the camera performance, not inferior quality but a narrower coverage angle (The 6 Pro’s rear 64 MP gives a slightly better, wider shot. The front also gives an ultrawide shot for selfie fans). Other than the camera? The 2 GB less of RAM has not affected the phone, yet! Also worth mentioning is that both realme’s X50 and 6 Pro came with identical batteries and chargers, it’s early days but given the 120Hz display, I’d say the battery won’t last as long as 6 Pro’s if you’re a gamer, it will undoubtetly charge as fast though so shouldn’t be a problem. I have reviewed the 6 Pro and I have always thought that it was overpriced, for realme themselves to launch the X50 and sell it for this price? I think it’s an eye opener, and definitely makes it harder for other manufacturers to compete with them, this phone literally is a game changer. Would I recommend it? For the price alone? Definitely! --------------- Update 1: Like many people in the UK, I don’t live in an area with 5G coverage, yet. So when I went to an area with guaranteed 5G Coverage, and with a 5G SIM card in the phone, I was disappointed to see only 4G reception! Went to check the settings and a bad surprise was waiting, there is no 5G option available! Now I know the phone has the correct hardware for it, so I personally think it’s a software issue given that this phone has only launched in the UK a few days ago and realme might need some time to resolve some conformity issues, which will hopefully be rectified by a firmware update. I will keep my 5 Star rating because even with 4G network only, the phone still preforms beyond my expectations. I have visited my relative with the realme 6 Pro and compared boot up times and responsiveness, and the X50 is definitely the winner. I have also emailed Realme EU support as there’s no dedicated UK support. Will hopefully get an OTA update resolving the 5G issue soon. Will update as and when required, but I wouldn’t be put off with this, it still is a great value for money. --------------- Update 2: Still haven’t heard anything back from realme’s support, but searching for solutions I came across many people having similar issues with OnePlus 5G handsets and O2. With realme, OPPO and OnePlus being different brands for the same company, I will put some money on realme having the same issues. I will be assuming that if anyone’s looking for a SIM Free phone then like me, you’ll probably have a SIM only contract that doesn’t cost you half your monthly income, and it seems like my service provider (Sky, running on O2 network) are bluntly stating that they’ll only support 5G on handsets purchased through them (Which I will never do). O2 used to sell OnePlus phones at some point but they seem to have dropped their support and OnePlus 8 owners seem to have serious issues trying to get 5G on their phones, with both OnePlus and O2 passing blame but without getting anywhere, leaving customers stranded with expensive handsets that aren’t fully functioning as intended. There is a workaround that will fix the issue (Tried and tested on OnePlus phones, highly likely to work on realme phones too), includes some serious programming and coding work to change the carrier policy on the phone, to be honest? I’d probably try it if I was bothered about 5G, but I’m not. Given the price point of the phone, I will be keeping it and continue to use it, if the 5G issue gets fixed via an OTA update then happy days, if not, it’s still an incredibly good phone for the price. --------------- Update 3 – 06 May 2021: A week ago, this handset updated to Android 11, and not only that, but I can now use 5G on Sky, I can also use VoWifi and VoLTE! I got a OnePlus 8T while it was ‘reduced’ to £399! 5G is not working, neither are VoWifi or VoLTE! This phone is IMPRESSIVE! A few months on, it’s still a real game changer, and a flagship killer!

This is an excellent phone - good size, good memory, apps respond quickly, battery life is really good and it recharges in about 30 minutes :) The camera is good too. The case colour is really distintive and it comes with a clear backing case. I havent found anything to dislike about it. My company supplied phone is an iphone 7 and the Realme is better in my opinion due to its size (iphone 7 is really small) - I can actually read text on the screen clearly. The clarity of the screen is great. The price is good too, paid £279. Would definitely recommend.

For the price this is amazing, I mainly bought this for the chipset and 120hz refresh rate so that I could play pubg at a decent level and it runs it amazingly quick, for comparison my pixel 3a xl although runs pubg ok could not compete with this. This allows everything to render quickly and at a decent speed to kill some pro players. This has 120hz refresh rate !!!!!! Games run awesome. Anyway everything else is amazing as well, the camera is ok nothing special and not even as good as my old pixel 2 xl but it is ok and you can get some ok shots and plenty of options. Face recognition is brilliant, finger sensor is on the side and works well. Battery is brilliant, very fast charging that tells you precisely the level it is at and shows it going up in small increments. I like the display, shows up well outside and I do prefer lcd. Hard to beat for the price and it has 5g. Only downside is it's not waterproof so be careful. It comes with a case and screen protector already on so no faffing around. Very fast and smooth with the chipset 765 plays demanding games beautifully. Best buy this year. Hardly no bloatware as well. In closing show me another phone at £279.00 as good as this!

It's not often I write reviews as I'm generally always on the go however, this phone is worth a few words. I have always tended to lean toward flagship killers as although you can sometimes get a dud this time I struck gold. I got lucky with the one plus with the launch of One. The blue vivo 6 was great for very little money the armor 6 was a bit of a let down. I write this keeping in mind the realme x50 5g is £300. The overall finish is very sleek. It feels solid, slightly heavy but it has a pretty huge screen and battery which lasts exceptionally well. Picture quality - for someone who doesn't buy a phone for a camera as normally at this price range you're going to be disappoint , I'm actually pleasantly surprised. Even with my hyperactive son racing around I've managed to get some great photos that aren't blurry! I haven't tested it at night yet for graininess. The fingerprint unlock hasn't failed once yet and that drove me nuts with the armor 6. WiFi calling has been flawless which is primarily the reason I gave up with the armor 6 as that was useless. I haven't noticed any glitching when selecting apps. I will update after another week

Unbelievable you can get a phone this good for this money these days. This is not a flagship phone, but it is 75% of one for under a third of the price! CONS: No Amoled screen, dark scenes a struggle. Camera ok but not winning any awards. Single speaker. PROS: IPS LCD is better in sunlight. Crisp visuals FHD+ Chews through PUBG + COD with ease. Tough, gorilla glass 5 front and back. Sounds fantastic over Bluetooth. Super quick charging. Great call quality. Superb battery life. Realme UI easy to navigate + great features Water cooled, 5G, 120htz on a £299 phone! Bottom line, my last phone was an Huawei mate 10 Pro which was a flagship phone two and half years ago and, with a few pluses and minuses, on balance this stacks up pretty close. No Amoled and a camera that's not gonna blow your mind, but latest 7nm processing with 5G and some cool new doohickies thrown in makes this a great phone. If you don't want to take out a second mortgage and sell a kidney to pay for a contract on one of today flagships, then this phone is more than capable of keeping you on a cheap SIM only deal while still making you feel like your holding some premium tech!
