Ward must choose between doing what is right, and doing what will save lives!
Wrath of the Bloodeye --- just might be my favorite in The Last Apprentice series to date. It is the fifth book, and intriguing and compelling. After a band of military deserters over power and attempt to sell Thomas Ward into the army as a soldier, the Spook, Old Gregory, wants to toughen up his young apprentice. Also, he is concerned about the Fiend (from book 4) being loose, and possibly still after Ward. The decision is made that for six months, Bill Arkwright (a former apprentice and current Spook in a neighboring County), will teach Ward. They will focus on fighting and defending ones self. Arkwright has additional demons that are out of control, and though Gregory is aware of them, he still believes sending Ward is the best move. Not wanting to be away from Alice, Ward reluctantly agrees to the temporary assignment. The newest threat is Morwena, a water witch. Where many witches cannot cross running water, a water witch thrives in it. They are very dangerous. Arkwright and Ward must battle the creature. It looks like the Fiend is closing in on Ward as well. With dangerous bogs, and rising tides, with people kidnapped, and witches everywhere, Ward finds himself in a desperate place where he must choose between doing what is right, and doing what will save more lives. Choices are all around him. Many will only serve to anger Gregory. Most will save his life.Great secrets of family lineage are revealed. The book ends on a terrible cliff hanger. I want to say more about how upsetting the last few chapters are, but will not spoil it for readers. All I can tell you is I am thrilled I have Book 6 sitting right beside me!Phillip TomassoAmazon Best Selling AuthorThe Vaccination TrilogyDamn the DeadYoung Blood: The Nightbreed Saga

Great addition to the series
Tom Ward continues on with his education under John Gregory, a "Spook", in learning to fight against the dark. In this book, Tom is sent away to train with a former apprentice of Gregory's, a nasty fellow who likes to get drunk and beat up on people including Tom.I didn't really enjoy this part of the story. The series so far has focused on Tom, his Spook master and Alice who may or may not be an evil witch. The tale lost some of its flair when Tom went off to battle skelks, and water witches with a disreputable drunk as an instructor. And I hated that Alice has (for now) been kicked out of the group. The only strong female character in the series and Delaney sends her packing? She was by far the most interesting one of the bunch. Actually, the books would probably be better if they focused more on Alice. At least she's in touch with her feelings. The boys are all repressing something and using violence to solve every problem. But still, a good read. Not as good as "The Soul Stealer" but highly enjoyable.

I LOVE THE CREEPY FACTOR IN THIS SERIES
This is the 5th installment in The Last Apprentice series. Tom Ward has been sent to study under another Spook named Bill Arkwright. John Gregory, Toms master, always send his apprentice point to train for 6 months under another Spook. That way the apprentice can learn from another point of view. It also was a way for Tom to avoid being drafted in the war. Tom definetly doesnt want to go because he likes his master and he will miss Alice.Bill Arkwright is an abrasive Spook that likes the red wine...alot. He doesnt have the same morals for the dark as John Gregory. This is a little upsetting to Tom. The Fiend is back and will surely be coming for him so he needs to be trained in physical combat. What will happen when the Fiend sends his children after Tom? Read this book and find out!Ill say it again folks! I absolutely love this series! I cannot wait to finish it! But then I think Ill be a little sad because the fun will be over :( .

keeps getting better
As usual the story just keeps getting better. This is one series I can't stop reading, I can't wait each year for the new one to come out I even buy the uk version because I don't want to wait for the us version.Things come to a head with alice finding out who she really is, but I still believe tom and alice will be together in the end.tom really had to grow up and learn to fight in this book and stand up for himself since he's almost always alone when trouble comes.I can't wait to see what his mam will have to talk to him about.

I liked the introduction of a new spook
I liked the introduction of a new spook. It helps to broaden the story with more characters. It also gave the book depth when his personality clashed with Tom and they have 6 months together. I like the cliffhanger ending about Alice being sent away and Tom's mam needing help. It makes me eager for the next book. Good read.

A long story, but...
This book brings Tom along in his journey and goes well with the other narratives. The only problem is the number of books in the series. At least 13, maybe more. Plus the books get more expensive as you go on with the tail. It Ian a good book, but the price is too much for such a long drawn out series.

Amazing YA Series!
Wardstone Chronicles Book 5*The Spook's Mistake*Wow! This is probably the best book ever in the Wardstone Chronicles. Its just so awesome, that I'll have to write a bigger review. So let's begin, the book cover is just awesome with Arkwright and his blood hounds with a misty green back round. It really sets up a terrifying atmosphere. Its the second time I read the book, the first time I didn't enjoy it but now it just has broken a food deal of records. It literally makes me happy and full of joy, but enough of praise. I read this book in digital format on kindle as usual, but in the European edition with the title "Wrath of the Blood eye" which refers to the empress of the water witches and the daughter of the Fiend (that is the devil), Morwena who is the primary antagonist. Now, the book is bigger than the others if compared, took me 3-4 days to read. The title is aptly given, as the plot completely changes due to a single but a disastrous mistake by Bill Arkwright, the Spook of the Northern Caster region. So, there's a lot of things happening in the book, all extremely well written and a delight to read. The book starts as the "Press Gang"hunt for young children and try to make them forcefully join the army, Tom, barely escapes them with Alice's help due to which the spook decides to send Tom at the Northern Caster to Bill Arkwright, a local Spook who is an expert on water witches and everything that's related to marsh and dampness. As i mentioned before, Morwena along with the Fiend are the central antagonist. Both of them are terrifying and horrifying but I always find the Fiend very mysterious with no major motive and a dark appearance, which makes him insuspectable. Even the Spook is scared of him and fears for Tom. Alice, shows a lot of her dark side and her association with witches as she uses mirrors to contact, witch bottle or I'd rather call it blood jar, and contacts the deadly witch assassin Grimalkin to request her to help Tom and also using "Dread" to rescue Tom from the press gang. She has truly become one of the major characters and very prominent but i hate that the Spook treats her as filth and never ever completely trusts her. She shows her dark side a lot of times in the book but she also states that, "To Fight the Dark we need to use the Dark sometimes" which is truly a very true sentence, but i promise that Old Gregory couldn't accept so. Its also revealed that she herself is the daughter of the Fiend in the end. I think I'm not going step by step. So i'd rather start at the depiction of scenery and nature. Joseph Delaney has truly done a wonderful job. He has portrayed the Northern Caster even better than he did Chipenden. The dark forests, the damp marshes, the open and tall valleys and mountains, inns, Arkwright's house, the haunted mill, the coastal areas with witches lair, etc,et. All this atmosphere really adds to the story and gives it a richer complexion. I really like the hermits staying place, the haunted mill, the bridges, the island and many other things like the barge. The story is also really well created. It just addicts the reader to read and read. I would say that the book goes a bit more faster as compared to the previous books. I like Arkwright's unique character and personality but i totally hate his drinking habits and when he suddenly grows angry. His library and knowledge about the water witches is a competitor to the Spooks . He is in his youth and follows different methods than the Spooks so we get to see a lot of new things. Tom really has a hard time north of Caster, he is missing Alice, having exhausting lessons everyday, getting beaten for his curiosity and whenever he tries to help anyone, he gets jumbled and imprisons himself. But he gains a lot experience. There's a lot of water witches in the book, they are described very well which gives chills to the reader. Morwena is just great with her bloodeye ability that can freeze anyone and that finger hook through which she can drag her preys below the swamps. Even, Grimalkin comes into Spotlight in the book, I really like her with all her weapons and costumes and all mighty attitude, she is truly the queen of witches I would say. she becomes a major character at the end of the book as she helps Tom to finish off Morwena. Even as the Fiend is broken loose into the world we see him and his true form for the first time, and his greatest and the most fantastic ability to tamper, stop and speed up time. This is so Cool! I especially like the parts of story when, Alice uses dread, Tom visits the haunted mill, the compete training of Tom under Bill Arkwright, encounter with Morwena, the blood hounds (Claw and Bone, but sadly one of them dies. If you see the cover they are really scary and blood thirsty. Really good for witch hunting.), Arkwright's Alcohol addiction, his knapping by Morwena, Toms runaway, the Spooks trap, rescuing Arkwright, Grimalkin's entry and all the encounters with the devil and the fighting with Morwena in the end. i love Toms and Alice's emotional conversations. They are so addicting. Arkwright's drinking habits tick me off. Even the ghosts of his parents are boring and unnecessary addition. I did not like the adventure of the seal woman very much. It just wants to male you read more and more I think this is enough and my review will inspire you to read this fantastical, thrilling, magical, describing, delightful, page-turner and somewhat scary book from the promising Wardstone Chronicles. I've already started with the next in series. Hoping to finish soon. Nice Reading!!!

The best one so far!
This fifth book in the wardstone chronicles is the best of them all so far.Tom ward is sent by the spook to train with bill arkright another spook who specialises in tackling water creatures and water witches, once there tom begins to learn the dangers of the water and is soon embroiled in a plot involving the ever growing power of the fiend and his daughter, a terrifying water witch who is very strong and very dangerous. Soon tom, alice, the spook and bill are all in grave danger and must figure out a way to defeat the evil water witch.Delaney as usual writes with vivid descriptions and his ability to tell the story through toms eyes makes the Reading experience much more enjoyable and exciting. The action steps up several notches and the scare factor is tripled as more deadly and terrifying creatures are introduced. The character development is excellent and it's easy to place yourself in toms shoes and feel like you are part of the story.Delaney has outdone himself with the spooks mistake and it is undoubtedly my favourite so far, his ability to draw you into this series is amazing. Do not hesitate for a second, start reading these books right now and you will not be dissapointed in the least bit.

. Spook cronicals
I like the suspense and not also how gripping it is . A real page Turner. I like the bit where Tom Ward defeats the water witch with his master John Greggory. What I didn't like was the part where the devil is in disguise as the driver in the carriage and also the bit where Tom gets dragged by the water witch Morwena . The bit that was shocking to me was finding out who is Morwena's father. I recommend this book because it is magical and thrilling for those who like the spook series novels

Joseph does it again
SPOILER ALERT!Another brilliant book to add on to the previous four. Not as good as the last one but still a very good read. lot's of excitement and anew take on Tom and Alice's relationship, they have to have to have grown closer but further from each other the story goes on.Bill Arkwright is a delightful character (please don't blame me if the spelling is wrong), I particularly enjoyed the part that he played and his back story was very intriguing. I like the idea of the water witches and Morwena, especially that she's a daughter of The Fiend along with Alice. All in all I have enjoyed the fifth instalment of The Wardstone Chronicles and am intrigued to read more.

Schade
