Easy-Install Two-Stage Stairwell Drain Cover Resists Yard Waste Clogs and Flooded Basements

Works well to keep our patios from flooding. Oak leaves are easily stopped but still much smaller oak tree debris gets inside this and needs to be cleaned out periodically. Much better than being outside in the heavy rain! They are a tripping hazard, though. And the inside strainer should not be left unprotected in the sun.

This product will save your basement from flooding. I placed this over the drain at the base of my stairs that lead out to my backyard. If I forget to sweep up the leaves just before heavy rain is expected, I don’t have to worry about the drain clogging up with debris. The water drains without pooling and gets filtered under the debris. Just don’t forget to clean out the filter every so often. This product is hassle free.

The Good: First the pin of the Drain Defender is longer now and I had no problem getting it to stay in my drain even though it is “sunk” into the concrete. It appear Drain Defender will do the job of helping the drain continue to work if leaves or other debris get around the drain and would probably aid in preventing flooding etc. The Bad: The problem I have with it is there is about 1/4” of hard plastic between the edge/bottom of the cover and the opening/hole for the water to go through. That means you automatically have 1/4 of water “backed up” before it can actually go down the drain. While 1/4” isn’t a huge amount, depending on the fall of your concrete it could make a big difference. I wasn’t pleased with how much water was present in my case. I also felt, but can’t say I really checked it, that the drain defender slowed down the speed in which the water flowed into the drain, it definitely still flowed just seemed slightly slower. The speed isn’t that big a deal though. In the end I like the overall premise of it and believe it would be great if it cause the water to backup 1/4” . I will likely to either extend the openings further or more likely make some small notches along the bottom edge of the cover to let the water through. If that works then the Drain Defender will be my go to solution.

Excellent outdoor drain cover that keeps debris from clogging up storm drain on my patio. Debris accumulates on the outside circumference but allows rain water to still drain. It works.

It works!! I’m so pleased with this product. I’ve experienced two very strong storms. It was very easy to set up, clean and it doesn’t move once installed. Normally just a few leaves would block the drain and water would spill into the basement.

This works great for Basement entrance. It prevents leaves from blocking the water from draining. Really a great tool from preventing Basement flooding.

Wanted to give it time before I left a review. This really works. Our driveway slopes downhill to the garage and we get all the leaves, sticks and blooms from all the neighbors trees and plants collecting at the bottom. When it heavily, the garage would get water in it due to the drain getting clogged. Once we put this in, no more water in the garage. It really does stop all the debris from clogging the drain. Best money we ever spent

Just went through a proverbial 100-year storm and this did its job far better than expected. The stairwell drain was getting hammered with leaves, debris and roughly 2 inches of continuous torrential rain. The Drain Defender kept the actual drain opening clear enough to keep taking water. Very simple product, but it genuinely worked when I needed it. I’m buying another one because the first was accidentally thrown out during cleanup.

Had an issue in the alley between my house and neighbour where, if a big rain storm rolled in, I'd be awake all night checking to make sure the drain didn't get covered with leaves or other debris. Bought this drain defender hoping it would work, and what a difference it has made. Not once have I had any leaves block the drain. No more middle of the night runs to check the drain during heavy rains. It's expensive, but well worth it.

A previous cover was causing more blockages than it prevented, this cover stops build up of sticks and leafs keeping the water flowing. Easy to fit, easy to clean, great product.

This item surpasses all expectations. Extremely robust, weather and traffic tolerant. Protects drains from leaves, dirt and debris. Absolutely excellent product and functions as advertised.

Was early covered drain . Small plastic broke so I used a long small stainless steel bolt . This held it in place better

So far it has solved the issue of water build up when leaves and debris cover the drain. You just need to place it directly on the drain. Will have to see how long it lasts.
