The only possible drawbacks might be for some is that you cannot power it with batteries and if the repeats are set too high it can slip into an infinite repeat and also generate some nasty noise which some may actually like. . But other than that it's metal case is well made and the controls do quite a bit to give you a lot of options and control. The output has a lot of depth and clarity and the delays can make it sound like 2 or 3 guitars are playing if you learn how to keep from playing too many notes at one time. It should work well for any instrument and I think it would make a great gift. I am so impressed I am going to see what else the company offers as I assume I will see the same quality at a great price. The sensitivity of the time knob is weird as it is very sensitive til about the 11 o'clock mark on the knob and then really doesn't effect it too much after that. but the repeats effect ability is very cool because it allows for infinite repeats after roughly the 1 o'clock position on the knob. Also this pedal has a lot of gain and raises the volume of your guitar quite a bit. As some delay effect pedals almost cause a reverb effect when the delay pedal is initiated where this does not. It takes your exact tone and sound and repeats it just as it was played. The only reason I mention that is because my other delay pedal I use frequently, has a very discernable reverb sort of effect that one can hear when using. This one doesn't at all. Will give you a different line of distortion VS your standard channel on your amp. Nothing crazy and not much different than an Overdrive, just a standard medium output vintage sounding distortion. This will give you a little more control over the distortion effect than your amps distortion channel. Good if you want a different distortion channel, or if your amp doesn't have one (or is very low gain/fuzz), and can also be great as a boost or doubled up with your existing amp's distortion (careful as it can get muddy if you overdo it).
