For homebrew, will I need to leave any headspace pre-carbonation?

I purchased this as a gift for my son-in-law. Here is his answer...You only need a little bit of headspace. I try to avoid getting beer into gas valve so it doesn’t gunk up. He seems very happy with this product.

Will this hold other liquids? Like soda as well?

Can I still use fizz drops in this unit (about 11 or so) to carbonate beer?

not really thats what the cartridge does for you 20PSI shake every once in awhile for a couple days then pour
