This pen will outlast all the bargains.
I used to boast how little my fountain pens cost me. Some had decent nibs and were not bad writers, but I learned that there were other considerations. Cheap pens use cheap plastic which, sooner or later, will crack and split. The cap cracks and the pen is no longer portable plus the nib will dry in a short time. Then the body cracks and the pen has died. This Hongdian pen is miles away from those pens. It's made entirely of metal. Don't listen to anyone who says there is a rubberised grip. It may seem that way but it's simply clever engineering. Rubberised grips perish, so don't expect to see that on pens built to last. The pen is not heavy, though obviously heavier than a cheap plastic pen.The cap and body will not crack. The cap fits securely yet is not difficult to remove. The cartridge end of the nib section has a positive airtight feel when inserting cartridges, reducing the chance of evaporation. The upmarket converter supplied also fits well. This pen will outlast all the bargains, and it writes superbly. The nib is marked EF yet the line it produces is almost an F.I don't believe in spending a lot of money on a pen, but this pen is very good value at this price considering this quality of design and manufacture. It's also beautiful in a classical way. The whole pen is dark blue - body, cap and nib.I'm really happy with this pen and happy to recommend it.

Outstanding value for money
For the price this is amazing really. I've been taking it to work for eighteen months now and it hasn't missed a beat. I have a variety of lovely pens at various price points, and of course I'm not taking the 'good' ones to work - so this gets way more use than all the others put together. Not a single excess drip or flow issue of any kind. The steel nib is as good as any steel nib I've tried and it's worn in nicely. All metal construction feels sturdy, black finish hasn't flaked or chipped - really there's nothing to complain about whatsoever. I even like the design. Emphatically five stars.

Smooth finish
Sturdy pen with a satisfying “click” when replacing the lid. Extra fine nib flows ink easily. To handle heavy and sturdy but doesn’t impact writing ability. Have ordered another but with a medium nibUPDATE - Medium nib arrived, may love it more than the extra fine! Write well, doesn’t scratch and smooth

A beautiful and well-weighted pen
I was excited to receive this having read the reviews and I wasn't disappointed. A day before arrival I recieved a mail from the vendor covering the "how to" of the pen (nice touch!). I loaded the cartridge (rather than using the ink container) and gave it a good shake (as shown in the video). Wow! This pen writes smoothly and evenly, it's weighted perfectly for long writing stretches. Bottom line, for the price, cannot recommend highly enough, it's wonderful!

Beautiful pen, easy to write with
I am fairly new to fountain pens, and being left-handed, was hesitant. I've tried some before, and the result was a sloppy mess.I love writing with this pen, once I learned to adapt my writing style (which involves rotating the paper 45 degrees). People invariably comment on the bright blue colour of the pen, and the attractive diamond pattern texture. I also use blue ink which makes my writing jump off the page. The weight is just right, the grip is lovely, and the fine nib suits my form.I have friends who spend hundreds of £s on fountain pens, but this is a great writing instrument for a fraction of the price. My writing has always been very sloppy, and the slower writing that a fountain pen requires (I guess until I get more practice) has dramatically improved the legibility of my handwriting. If you've ever thought of trying a fountain pen, start with this one!

Initial Impressions
I only just got tis today and it's my first Hongdian pen and my first Fude Nib pen. So these are very early impressions. I'll update this review if my opinion changes after owning it a while:Build quality seems excellent. I used to own a Rotring 600 fountain pen and this matches it for build quality, weighs less and costs about a quarter of what I paid for the Rotring over 20 years ago. Ink seems to flow smoothly enough, on first filling and it glides nicely over the paper, even when using the pointy back of the nib. Only time will tell whether this remains the case when it's been left for a couple of days.My biggest challenge with this will be developing the appropriate technique to produce the variety of line possible. I've used dip pens, rapidograph pens, brush pens and parallel pens for ink drawing before and they all require different approaches and a bit of practice to get to grips with. This fude nib will be no exception, but I'm looking forward to seeing what I can do with it, when I get my hand in.

Nice pen spoilt by trashy refills
The simple, clean and elegant lines make for a very nice pen to hold. Nice weight and nice looks, are let down by a trashy rollerball refill from Schmidt. I will try some replacements, but the Schmidt 888F rollerball doesn't flow well at all, and feel scratchy.I have a corresponding fountain pen in Canada, and it's a fine writing instrument.

Sauberes Schriftbild

Looks well crafted
This is my first fountain pen, so I'm not qualified to compare it with others, I'll leave that to someone else. The width of a written line is wider than I anticipated, I'd guess it's comparable to a 0.8 - 1 mm ballpoint, maybe more. It feels great in the hand and I'll absolutely enjoy writing with this. The clip is pretty robust, strong and tight, it doesn't clip casually into a pocket and it will probably wear out your clothes over time. You can however do somersaults, backflips and possibly bungee jumps with this in your shirtpocket, and it will not come out.I just wanted to describe what puzzled me and took me some minutes to figure out (maybe I'm a bit slow):The pen comes with a piston cartridge converter. This allows you to refill it from an ink bottle. I have not used this function. It also works with ink cartridges (such as linked, and as suggest on this site). To use a cartridge, open the pen and remove the whole converter assembly. Take an ink cartridge from the pack, notice how one end is narrower and inside seems to be closed by some sort of ball. You'll see that this kind of fits on the back-end of the tip unit. Push those to ends gently but firmly together. The pen will ink and be able to write almost immediately.
