I recommend you stay seated for 30 seconds after flushing to ...
The odor problem in one of my bathrooms was getting out of hand so I purchased this toilet seat. It has almost eliminated the odor using its charcoal filter. You need to give the toilet time to clear the odor. I recommend you stay seated for 30 seconds after flushing to allow the toilet seat to clear the odor. The avocado scent is barely noticeable but covers up any lingering odor. The seat took only 15 minutes to install including reading the instructions and removing the old seat. The part that attaches to the toilet has self centering wing nuts with a single wing. The wing lodged against my toilet so I didn’t need to hold it. However once it starts getting tight, I would recommend you back it out slightly and hold it with your fingers so that there is not permanent pressure on the plastic wing. I would also only tighten it moderately since the fixture is plastic. The seat requires two D batteries. If you don’t need the night light and want to prolong battery life, hold down on/off switch for 3 seconds when you turn on the toilet seat. One very minor flaw I found was the toilet seat is not perfectly centered left to right on the bowl. I would say it is probably off by one eight inch. You will also have to get used to the “soft landing” seat. When I put it up, it bounced back and I thought it was going to close. This is the way it is supposed to work. I got used to it after a few weeks and now I really like it. You also have to get used to the way the seat attachment protrudes into the toilet bowl. At first men might think they are going to pee on it. Soon you realize that this is not a problem. This review was based on two months of use.

Very Uncomfortable For One's Butt Cheeks
I agree 100% with the other reviewer that reported this toilet seat is uncomfortable. Because it is so hard and because of the way it is shaped, the seat is very uncomfortable on the butt cheeks. And I mean seriously uncomfortable. Kohler really needs to go back to the drawing board and redesign this toilet seat. It is a great idea that is very poorly executed. The only positives about this toilet seat are that it takes easily inserted batteries, as opposed to requiring an electrical outlet (which most people will not have right behind a toilet), and it is very easy to install. (I do not use the night light.)The fan in this thing which is used to suck in the odor from the bowl is really small, and not powerful enough if the odor is very strong. (It will reduce the very strong odor, but not totally prevent it from escaping the toilet bowl. It is very effective if the odor is light.)Please, Kohler, redesign the Purefresh and make it more comfortable to sit on. (That is the most important thing for me personally regarding this product. I'd also like a stronger fan, but will take the comfortable seat change as a great start.)

Well made, better than past options from Kohler
The bowl lighting is much better than the past versions. The use of D cell batteries versus double AA batteries seems to have paid off on battery life. The added fragrance module works well. The seat is sleek and modern looking. Think it's a little pricey, hence the 4 stars.

Love the Nightlight
I bought this seat on a whim, we're older and getting around at night can be a bit dangerous, so in replacing our toilet with a Kohler, I saw this nightlight seat and my husband thought I was nuts. It lights up the entire bowl blue and even has a small blue light in the bowl itself, like a laser beam light, so great for little boys too trying to aim too. It would be great for kids overall to find their way into the bathroom at night. It runs for 7 hrs on the batteries and comes on at the same time every day depending on when you initially turn it on, similar to a watering timer. Not too sure about the fan/smell tabs that come with it. When you sit on the seat the little fan comes on but really I don't notice any smell with the tabs inserted. I was concerned the smell would be overpowering but that's not the case. The seat slips off easily for cleaning and battery replacement is easy too.The only issue is seat is a bit wobbly, plastic seems thinner than I would like and flexes a bit when you sit on it, so not really sure how long this will last, but the night light feature makes it worth the purchase. We've had it 6 weeks now and still going strong, not sure how long the batteries will work before having to replace.

Not for every home or person
This is an ingenious product. However, if you have people who are overweight, anyone who stands and doesn’t hit their target well, who are kids who stand on the toilet seat to get to the sink, or if the user shifts their weight on the seat one way or the other while performing functions, you may not want this toilet seat.I purchased one for each of our two bathrooms. The shifting seat actually detaches from the attachment part and requires the purchase of replacement attachment mechanisms even though there is no apparent or visible defect in the broken one. My daughter had also purchased two of these toilet seats and ran into the same problem. The company was great when I phoned them the first time it happened. And you can buy the replacement parts online for less than $10. But once you’ve put these together you will realize replacing this piece is not a snap and requires the investment of time and effort. If it needs to be done once a month or every other month it’s quite costly. From a sanitary perspective, all of the design features that make this so nice create an incalculable number of nooks and crannies for human waste to find its way into, primarily liquid waste. Even after using a tiny brush to clean as many nooks and crannies as I could, the under and backside never seem clean in the true sense of the word.It literally is a wonderful seat for many people. But it definitely isn’t for every household. And I have spent $140 for 6 months and now need to find a different solution.
