Beginning Apologetics 6: How to Explain and Defend Mary
L**.
This booklet is without a doubt one of the best (if not the best) explanations by Catholics
This booklet is without a doubt one of the best (if not the best) explanations by Catholics, in laymen's terms, of the legitimate scriptural and authoritative teachings of the Catholic Church concerning Mary. I would encourage every Christian to read it instead of reaching for non- Catholic sources about what the Catholic Church teaches. This booklet completely ERADICATES any prejudice, judgmentalism or confusion about what the Catholic Church teaches!!! Protestants will be AMAZED that what they thought they knew about Catholic Teaching on Mary was so wrong. Actually I encourage all people of faith or no faith at all to read it but beware (LOL) you may become Catholic as a result,God Bless!

A good, brief introduction
Take a second to look at the table of contents by using the "look inside" option. There you will see what's going on in the booklet (very short at 30 pages in large font). It's good, but not something that I think would convince most Protestants of Mary's assumption (bodily assumed into heaven like Elijah at the time of her death or before she died- it can go either way for Romans; Orthodox say she died, "feel asleep in the Lord," first) or immaculate conception (did not suffer form the guilt or power of sin form conception onward, not what all Christians mean by Mary's conception of Jesus). However, this booklet is a very good introduction to defending Mary as the Queen Mother, Mother of God, Perpetual Virgin and Queen of Heaven. These are teachings that are very much provable by Holy Scripture, or at least it is easy to dispel the Protestant objections as a shallow reading of the Bible. And if you understand the legitimate value of the tradition of the successors to the Apostles, and that sola scriptura (Bible only) is unbiblical, then you are overwhelmed with evidence from the earliest times late first and early second centuries that bears considerable weight. What I found very useful here is the proper use of the Old Testament as typologically applied to Mary, Christ and the Church. This is done by Jesus himself in the NT, along with Peter and Paul, so it isn't an invention of the medieval Roman Church that may raise the Romaphobia alert so typical in these discussions.Other books that have been useful to me in this topic, along with a general approach to an expansive understanding of what salvation means, are the following: Mary: The Untrodden Portal of God - Expanded and Revised Edition with a General Index  (best book on the subject), Mary of Galilee: The Marian Heritage of the Early Chruch : A Legacy of the First 500 Years (A Triology of Marian Studies)  (very detailed and convincing), Any Friend of God's Is a Friend of Mine  for a good intro to the idea that the Christians who have died are not dead, but alive to us in Christ, as noted in Revelation and Hebrews, and two general works of apologetics, one Roman, the other Eastern Orthodox: Catholicism and Fundamentalism: The Attack on "Romanism" by "Bible Christians"  and Common Ground: An Introduction to Eastern Christianity for the American Christian . Lastly, the single best book to get you or a friend thinking about what distinguishes Protestants from traditional Christians, and why Protestantism just doesn't make sense at a deep, biblical level, By What Authority?: An Evangelical Discovers Catholic Tradition .On the topic of tradition, authority and Scripture from a Protestant perspective, see A High View of Scripture? The Authority of the Bible and the Formation of the New Testament Canon (Evangelical Ressourcement: Ancient Sources for the Church's Future)Retrieving the Tradition and Renewing Evangelicalism: A Primer for Suspicious Protestants .Please see my other reviews for similar topics and let me know what you think! I am very interested to hear from you.

Helpful
This is the perfect book to help you or someone you love understand why Catholics HONOR Mary, the Mother of Jesus Christ. It covers everything pertaining to Her.

Explaining Mary (I hate to say "defending" because Mary needs no defence!~
When my Non-Catholic friends ask me about my religion, 9 times out of 10 it is about Mary. As a "cradle Catholic", I've never had too much trouble explaining why Catholics hold Mary in such esteem. I've pretty much explained it the same way as the Beginning Apologetics book 6. But it is nice to have the correct Biblical reference to refer to - although most Non-Catholics don't seem to 'get' the foreshadowing part.

Beginning Apologetics Vol 6
Delivery of the Beginning Apologetics Vol 6 workbook was very timely and the book itself is in great condition. The contents is quite consistent with the other apologetics workbooks in this series. Thanks for making this workbook available through Amazon! Ron D.
