Hornwort, also known as Coontail, has sturdy, layered hair-like foliage that helps oxygenate and clarify the water as well as keep algae growth to a minimum. It is found free-floating worldwide, in moving and still waters, or loosely anchored in muddy bottoms. The tips will shorten and thicken in fall, before falling off and settling on the pond floor to spend the winter as buds. In spring, these buds grow to repopulate the pond. Hornwort leaves are dark green and grow from a 1/2 to 1-1/2 inches long on stems that can reach 24 inches in length. They may be potted or just left to float in the pond. You will receive several stems in one bunch tied with at the bottom. You can plant as is or you can release them and allow them to float. These plants need at least 8 hours of light per day and they absorb nutrients through its stems so they do not root. Approximate Purchase Size: 6" to 8" Review: 5 stars - Plants looked almost dead when they arrived but don't let that fool you .In a few weeks they adjusted to the water and envioment and grew into HUGE healthy green hornwort plants. Must rinse all the loose needles off in a bucket before putting it in your tank . The same way as you would rinse aquarium sand . Review: Half dead on arrival, won't recover - Half dead and brown. Unsure if this will survive. Update: dead, and the replacement looked the same. I give up.

Great little plants. Just do some pre-tank steps to keep from shredding in your tank
I was apprehensive about purchasing this because of reviews that said the plant shredded and made a mess out of their tank, but took a chance. Yes, plant shreds a little from the shock of shipping. Yes, there were some brown areas on the plants. However, my tank was fine because I 1) Rinsed the plants several times 2) Kept them in a bucket filled with water from my tank for a few days, even gave them some sun ... after that there was NO SHREDDING IN MY TANK... so with a little pre-tank care I have 3 nice ;plants that are known to do a great job with removing nitrates from the tank.

Invasive Snail Infested Plants
The plants were healthy and plentiful with a portion able to cover about 8โx8โ ground in dense hornwort planting, or could thin to 20โx20โ probably. The only negative was that the plant was INFESTED WITH SNAILS. I have removed most snails, which layed eggs all over the aquarium, which I also took all day locating and removing. I am sure my tank will never rid of these invasive snails, but has not really caused any harm to my 36 Gallon molly fish and crystal red shrimp tank. Hopefully they donโt steal all my shrimps calcium

dead plants
I received the plants quickly, however they were very brown in the package. when i opened the plastic a horrible smell came out . I gently placed the plants in a gallon jug of fish tank water. after gently swishing i tried to remove the plants using the metal binding. they fell apart and had only stems with few leaves. one bundle only had stems about one inch long , and those were soft and mushy. I tossed out the jug with the leaves outside because the smell was bad.I did put the plants in my hospital tank thinking they might grow. After about two weeks i had to do a total cleaning of the tank , filters, gravel.every thing turned further brown and mushy. the plants i tried to rescue smelled really bad and the leaves that it did have fell off and covered the gravel and clogged the filters. I have thrown the rest of the plants away so I don't see how i can ask for a refund.
