MAG B550 TOMAHAWK

Best motherboard I've ever had. Works very well, no issues and booted first try. At a time when PC hardware is expensive and hard to find, the AM4 set up is the best option for gaming and this motherboard will definitely buy some time until the next upgrade. Its VRMs will handle the best of the AM4 CPUs and have more than enough cooling to handle overclocking due to having over kill heatsinks. Great optical audio out for it being built in. Decent USB ports though it could use a couple more. Operating with a liquid cooled Ryzen 7 5800x, MSI RTX 3070, 32GB DDR4 3200 RAM, Samsung NVMe 980 M.2 SSD. CPU overclocked hitting 4.82Ghz, GPU overclocked, RAM overclocked to 3600. In a case with proper fan placement it never runs hot and runs most everything at high to ultra settings at 120+ FPS. I intentionally have my FPS capped at 120 (118) for cooling purposes and to not stress my gpu so that it lives longer but it hit 244 FPS when uncapped (on a 244Hz monitor).

Best mobo for the AM4 generation. Easy to install and worked right out of box. I did not need to update the bios. It also is visually striking without all the anoying led. Although you can hook up ungodly amounts of led if you choose. I highly recommend this board

I bought this as a replacement for an ASRock X570 Steel Legend that I've had since they first launched back in the summer of 2019. As, it was gradually showing more signs of failure over the time that I had it in my system. First, the onboard audio stopped working. Which, I just switched over to using the audio interface that I had for recording. So, that didn't bother me TOO much. I also was noticing that games were starting to have more and more issues with micro-stutter. I did some tinkering and got it behaving a little better. But, that never fully went away. The final thing that prompted me to look for a replacement was I started having really bad lag issues while playing online games. Yes, legitimate lag. Not the "I missed my shot, the stupid server must be lagging!" type of lag. As, I'm very well aware of and openly recognize how bad I am at competitive games. This is "friend and I are in a car together, friend awkwardly crashes car into a building, I wonder why they did that, then the game suddenly snaps to us being on a completely different street and still moving" level of lag. Quite a frequent occurrence, at that. I tried a list troubleshooting steps. Driver updates for everything, lowering the games' settings, reinstalling the games, cleaning the operating system, reinstalling the operating system, adjusting settings and also resetting the router back to factory defaults, port forwarding, pestering the cable company about connection issues, different ethernet cables, etc. I figured seeing as the motherboard was already having other issues, perhaps it was drying out even further. So, I decided to start looking for replacement options. Which, being that the 7000 series processors had been out for a while, I knew that my options would be slimmer than before. At least for a NEW board. Also, pricing may not be ideal. But, reading a bunch of reviews and doing comparisons, this particular board sounded like it would be a solid choice without having to spend a lot more for the available higher end boards. I had mixed feelings about "stepping down" a notch to the B550 chipset. But, upon further consideration and reading, the performance difference was minimal. Plus, I didn't use enough of the extra features that X570 had over B550 to really be concerned about that. So, I went ahead and grabbed it. Yeah, it was a great decision to grab this board! Though there are still occasional lag quirks (which, is to be expected, honestly), there was a HUGE improvement in connection stability with games. Plus, games and the system overall feel notably smoother than before. Far less micro-stutter and things just feel more responsive, as a whole. Oh, and I have onboard sound back. Which, is cool too! But, yeah, I am VERY happy with this board! Everything about it seems to work great! And, I can't think of any major complaints. Maybe that the UEFI menu feels a little messy to navigate. But, that could just be a familiarity thing. Also, I don't use any of the "software suite" stuff that often comes with motherboards. That's just unnecessary bloat, to me. So, I can't comment on any of that stuff. I was worried that I was getting a step down from my previous board. But, that was not at all the case. A very solid choice for anyone that plays demanding games, does content creation, and/or software/game development.

I’m using MSI MAG B550 TOMAHAWK with my Ryzen 7 5800XT, and it’s been absolutely flawless. It booted up right away with no issues, the BIOS is clean and easy to navigate, and all components like RAM, SSDs, GPU, and AIO cooler worked perfectly from day one. The VRM temperatures stay cool even under load, and the board handles overclocking without any instability. I’m running 32GB DDR4 3200 MHz memory, dual NVMe drives, and a Radeon RX 5700 XT. Everything runs smooth and stable. It has plenty of USB ports, strong build quality, and a great layout for cable management. The RGB lighting is subtle but adds a nice touch to the setup. Overall, one of the best-value B550 motherboards you can buy. It performs like a high-end X570 while staying affordable and reliable.

This review is for the MSI MAG B550 Tomahawk motherboard. I purchased one for $179 in January 2022, and it has been a solid performer. I paired it with an AMD Ryzen 5 5600G processor, 32 GB of G.Skill 3200 RAM, and an EVGA 750 watt power supply. The board is well-built and has a solid, hefty feel to it. Installation was a snap, and the user guide includes ample diagrams for component locations, pin-outs, and connectors. I flashed the BIOS before install for the new 5000 series Ryzen processors (a simple process, well-documented on the MSI website), and I didn't have any issues at start up. The Ryzen 5 5600G processor comes with a Wraith Stealth cooler, and removing the stock cooler bracket (4 screws) was a cinch, then just mount the Wraith cooler with 4 screws and done. After a 48 hour burn-in session I've been running the machine from 8 to 12 hours a day for over a month and I haven't had a single issue. I do mainly gaming, music and video streaming, word processing, and web browsing. CPU and board temps have not gone above 85 centigrade even when gaming. There are 6 SATA ports, which is plenty for most mainstream rigs, and plenty of USB connectivity counting the motherboard ports and front panel ports on my case. If you're planning on hanging a ton of USB devices off your board you might want to look for one with more connectivity, but for most this board will be plenty. I'm no audiophile, but I know what sounds good, and the audio from this board is great for music, movies, and gaming. The PCH and M.2 heatsinks are a nice touch, and the minimal amount of LED lighting on the board is pleasant and low-key. I haven't yet used a dedicated graphics card (waiting for prices and supply to ease), nor am I using the M.2 slot (I have 2 SATA drives installed). The UEFI Bios interface is presented well and provides mutiple memory profiles and overclocking options for those who are so inclined.. I haven't overclocked the board, but I did bump the RAM speed from the stock 2166 up to 3200, which improved my gaming frame rates. I'm happy with the price, features, and performance of this motherboard. I deducted one star from my rating because I'm not happy with MSI's policies. In order to register the warranty they demand that I install the Chrome web browser on my computer and create a user account, and I won't do that. They don't offer any other options for registering the warranty. If they want to form an unholy alliance with Google that is their business, but they won't dictate what programs I install or what web browser I use. I may or may not ever buy another MSI product, but I am pleased with this purchase.

If you want a solid board for a Ryzen 3xxx or 5xxx, the B550 MAG Tomahawk is a great choice. 1) For under $200, the motherboard has quality vrms that can handle those monster 12 and 16 core processors (Hardware Unboxed has videos that verify this). I have the board paired with a Ryzen 3800XT for a work and play build and I don't worry about overheating my vrms. 2) If you are into overclocking or just tweaking your processor and ram, all the parameters are easy to find in the bios. I don't overclock my processor but I see the many parameters while manually tuning RAM. 3) The RAM QVL list is extensive, which is a major positive when dealing with Ryzen builds. Find QVL listed RAM and you can turn on A-XMP to easily run your ram at the rated speed. I had no trouble with running Hyper X Predator 3200 CL 16 DDR4 RAM with A-XMP and was able to get better tuning with help of the Ryzen Memory Calculator 4) Two M.2 NVME SSD slots (Gen 4 and Gen 3) and 6 sata ports (none disabled when using M.2). This is a major plus if you run SATA SSDs and HDDs for gaming and mass storage needs while still getting the benefits of NVME speeds for booting and apps. The NVME slots come with removable heatshields, which is a nice bonus if you have an NVME that supplies its own heatsink 5) There's a switch for turning the color lights off on the board. Great for those of us who are more about function and without see through cases. 6) The IO Shield is integrated with the board. This is great for not having to fight with the shield when lining up your motherboard mounting. 7) Reinforced video card PCIE slot. Those gaming GPUS aren't light! 8) Onboard sound is solid quality and includes SPDIF output 9) The motherboard layout is great for accessing the various ports and installation hookups during a build I can't think of much else to say. I've had this motherboard for a build since October and its having no problems being the heart of my personal use system where I practice programming, make audio for language learning, play some triple A games on Steam, and do other trivial things (web browsing, Office, etc)

I initially thought some recent audio issues I was having were due to this mobo, but further testing pointed to a CPU issue. Still running this mobo with a new cpu and things seem good.

When you are thinking about how to build your first PC and come to another World, this motherboard will give you the key to a new life! This is a really good product based on the am4 chipset for zen 2 and zen 3 CPU! All you have to do is pick your first AMD processor, and for me it's the Ryzen 7 5800X! It works well, but to keep this CPU of yours always cool, you need good cooling like the MSI MAG Core Liquid! All this together will give an amazing result! But if you have a little less money in this hurricane of the crisis, then you can always buy this motherboard now with any cheaper processor for zen 2, and then change it to any more powerful one for zen 3! The thing that struck me the most about this motherboard was the 2.5GbE LAN! and LAN 1GbE! Make a local network inside through one port, and put the whole world of the Internet on the second! When you buy a video card, you will be as happy as a child when you see PCIe4 and m2.v4 slots for this card! It really gives crazy speed inside video games and works with any professional software! Of course you will get the newest USB and good sound thanks to the Realtek ALC1200 chip) When the lights in your room go out and you see RGB backlighting on the board, only the girl next to you will make your evening hot: after all, your board will always be cool enough, but at the same time ideal for this little money, which gave you the key to a new world of pleasure and enjoyment in the World!

My MSI B550 Tomahawk motherboard worked perfectly with my Ryzen 7 3700X! Build quality , colors, feel were all premium. Instructions with QR code YouTube videos was a plus! The DVD drivers were all easily loaded and setup. My fav driver is the MSI Mystic Light LED controls, easy to use and coordinates the light effects :) Thanks Amazon for the great price and speed of service!

I built my pc like 2 weeks ago using this motherboard nect to a ryzen 5600X, RTX 4060 and 32 gigs of ram and i love it, the design is just super pretty although what i didn't like was the led lights it has, my GPU kinda blocks it so they should've thought of another place to put it but nonetheless still a great motherboeard for its price. Would recommend!
