The idea is to bury it deep in the grease in the tube and then close the cap. I don't think the second wire nut would get deep enough. I had multiple wires for a sprinkler system connection so used several. They work well and are easy to use. I made a simple tool from bent wire hanger wire to push them all the way to the bottom and get the squeezed out grease back on the top of the tube before closing it up. I imagine a small screwdriver would do as well. Just grab a couple paper towels to clean up as you go. **Q: I want to buy the variety with the yellow wire nut, but I'm only able to access the product page with the orange wire nut. What's going on?** A: NON LEFT ON AMAZON.... **Q: After making the splice ,should the grease tube remain on the ground or can you bury it?** A: We buried them. I think these are great. We used them for low-voltage LED pathway lights, and the spliced wires were buried anywhere from 1 inch to 5 inches below the surface.
