The best purchase I have ever made
So I’ve used a fountain for my cat for a while, first the cat-it fountain and then a stainless steel one that held more water. The stainless steel one was getting incredibly slimy so quickly, I had to full on take it apart and wash it almost every other day. So after some digging I decided on this ceramic one, my favorite one yet. So, my favorite thing is that it’s an open bowl so that if the power goes out, my cat can still drink. I love that it doesn’t make any noise at all, either the motor or the running water. I can’t stand the sound of a water fountain running, or like that fish tank trinkle sound. My other 2 fountains did that if they got even like an inch lower than full. This one is quiet and amazing. Since the motor is in the bottom and pushes the water up through the big dome in the middle, it can get pretty low and still function, but I wouldn’t recommend relying on that cause you don’t wanna burn out the motor. I love the open bowl because it’s also easy to visually see when you need to refill it and you just pour it right in. This thing is so easy to clean, literally everything except the motor is dishwasher safe, and the cord has a thing where it detaches in the middle so that you can pull the motor out without having to weave the whole cord and plug through the hole. It’s physically so easy and simple to take apart, there aren’t like a hundred pieces of things that all collect slime. I usually clean mine once a week but I’ve left it for a lot longer just being lazy and topping it off, and the slime only developed after a few weeks. It does come with a filter that you can use, but it works without it too. You have to still use the filter housing to help give the water a way to get to the top of the dome, but I left the filter out because I use filtered water already, and I like to use a dental additive that I didn’t want to get filtered out immediately. To be a crazy cat lady just a little, I also love that the ceramic keeps the water pretty cold. I give my cat water out of the water pitcher we keep in the fridge and I’ve noticed he drinks more if it’s a little chilly. Last thing, and what really sealed the deal. The filter housing is pretty much the only plastic thing, and one day I didn’t put it in my dishwasher right (my fault) and it fell to the bottom and melted on the heating element that’s on there. Absolutely my own fault. But! The customer service for this fountain is amazing, I contacted them and they sent me a replacement piece for it, and the shipping was so fast. It didn’t even have to be that fast because without using the motor this is still a decent regular water bowl. But definitely a company worth investing in, and a really good quality and thought out product.

big upgrade
i only have a cheap plastic fountain to compare to - but i'll say if you debating whether to pull the trigger on this - ceramic is a HUGE upgrade. We already have (apparently) a baseball worth of plastic in us, my cats pretty 'big boned' but she doesn't have room for a baseball! EDIT::::: THE FILTERS ARE THE HALF CIRCLE ONES - Still not hard to find but wanted to mention this ::::::; also, comparatively, it's a way easier clean than the other plastic ones i've cleaned, less nooks & crannies. and also something i learned upon my last ones pump dying - those come apart more than you'd think and your actually supposed to clean those as well. go figure. i've not replaced filter yet but i think these little square filters are pretty common, it's not some proprietary B.S, or anything. Lastly, it is EXTREMELY QUIET on low setting. plus now your cat can now flex on other cats, this is premium water fountain territory. metal is gaudy & plastic it's hard to trust the 'quality' of the plastic because water IS constantly flowing over top of it - you know - like a river with rocks an what not. anyways, i wouldn't steer you wrong. trust the random guy writing way to long of reviews. just don't step on it or whatever ???

easy to clean
very few parts/surfaces takes 5 minutes to empty, wipe/brush all surfaces including motor and impeller. peaceful and meditative. and yes the cats like it too!. they lick the top, the bowl area is narrow so my maine coon with her big muzzle can't lap from the bowl but she doesn't mind. Heavy ceramic but solid

Quiet operating cold refreshing water fountain for your furry babies!
The fountain looks just like the photo, (the center bubbling piece is gray colored) it holds 60 oz of water and so quiet you can barely hear it operating. I bought this to replace a much heavier and larger Petsafe Pagoda fountain that I've used for decades (and still works!) The pump and filter(s) do a good job of filtering the water - especially for furrier cats. My older fountain made plenty of noise so it's quite a change hearing how quiet this one is. The fountain uses 2 filters, 1 foam that fits around the pump and a charcoal filter that sits inside the cup attaching on the outside of the pump. I rinsed the charcoal filter then let it sit in water for a long time and I still kept seeing tiny black spots in the bowl. If this is an issue for you - you can either try to find filters made by another company to see if they don't leave deposits or simply use the fountain without a charcoal filter in the cup (which I have done for many, many, years.) Last night, my 20+ lb cat spooked, went crazy and smacked hard into the fountain, sliding it on the tile floor slinging water out yet the fountain stayed upright and did not break. It was an excellent durability test and it passed 150%. Now all I need to find is a cat that mops up their messes!

Best cat fountain based on hours of research
I honestly love this fountain. It’s essentially silent (even when I sleep with it only a few feet away) and it has a large capacity so I can comfortably leave my two cats at home during my long days at work knowing they’ll have plenty of water. My cats enjoy drinking from it so much that they actually refuse to drink still water anymore, which means I have more pressure of me to clean it quickly once the need arises but regardless I’ll take the hydration win. My only complaint is that it’s a bit clunky if you’re just drying to replace the water because the two main pieces aren’t connected so when it’s turned upside down to dump the water, if your hand isn’t securely holding the dome piece in place, it could fall and crack your sink from it being heavy ceramic (unfortunately from experience). However, all in all I’m incredibly pleased: the material means harbors less bacteria and therefore gets less gross with that slimy residue, it’s pretty ease to understand how to take it apart and put it together again, and most of all my cats aren’t confused with how to use it. I tried a stainless steel fountain before this one and it was louder and got dirty almost instantly due to the filtration system being a joke. The filter for this fountain is annoying in its own way because of how much you need to rinse it to get the carbon powder off but otherwise it does a good job at filtering hair and other debris. I replace the water and use my hand to wipe the bowl section around every 2 days and fully clean it out pump and all around every 3 weeks. I also use a water additive (Vetradent) in the fountain with no issue. The fountain fits about 6 cups of water plus the additive which is two small medicine style cups worth. I did tireless research on cat fountains and I feel really pleased with what I landed on, so I wanted to share my positive experience to hopefully save someone else the hours of time researching that I had to spend.

Kitties love it
I bought the PetSafe Ceramic Pet Fountain for my three cats, two of whom are teenagers. As my boys get older I worry about their water intake. They love it and they're better hydrated than ever. The filters also do their jobs and the motor has run for a long time. You do need to pay attention to directions during assembly because there is only one way it goes together, and you'll have to remember that every time you change the filter. The ceramic looks great and seems like it will last forever assuming I don't drop it, and the little motor to run the fountain hasn't missed a step, and it runs quietly enough that it doesn't scare any of the cats off (unless the water level gets low). And with the moving water and the ceramic, it doesn't attract any unwanted living slimy things, which is nice.

Only worked for 5 months
Worked great until it didn’t. Quiet and gentle, but after 5 months the pump burned out and I had to throw it away. Petsafe support was no help. I’ve bought cheaper water fountains that lasted years longer.

Love the fountain, but the cats don't
Love the fountain, aesthetically speaking. I like that it's ceramic, super easy to assemble, great instructions, and seems like a solid company I like to support. It is very quiet. I have 4 abandoned cats, 3 of which are related, and need to remain separated from the other male cat who doesn't like having the others around. I've been challenged to get the three to drink enough water, as they are scratching the floor of any dish I put down, as I know they consider the water 'dirty' or not fresh. I thought I'd try a fountain, esp. when the male cat that's part of the family developed a UTI w/ some small amounts of blood coming out. I've had it for several weeks now, and none of the three will go near it. My husband thought it could be the design w/ the tall cone gets in the way. Cats, I've learned, need flat dishes for their food so their whiskers don't hit the sides of a bowl, which bothers them. Maybe the cone is an obstacle for them? Not sure. So, I knocked one star off. I may give it a few more days, before moving it into the other room to see if the other male cat drinks from it. He's better about drinking water, so I wasn't as concerned, but I also felt bad asking to return it. I may try another ceramic fountain with a different, more open round shape, although personally, I love how this one looks.

Good for cats. Ceramic better than plastic.

Expensive and probably overpriced. Nonetheless, it is easy to clean, works well, and is very quiet. I was specifically looking for a fountain that would still provide access to water if the power goes out, and this design does that well. Definitely a splurge, but it looks great in the home.

Worth the money
After comparing so many fountains, I’ve been using this ceramic one for two months and love it. I avoided plastic (hard to clean/noisy) and stainless steel (water drains away during power outages, weird metal smell). Pros: -If the power goes out, there’s still water on top for the cat to drink. -Zero motor or water noise. -Ceramic material is hygienic and dishwasher safe. Cons: -It’s heavy/fragile, so you have to be careful when carrying it to wash. Cleaning takes about 10 minutes every few days. -I change the water daily, so I only use the pump filter. It requires a bit of maintenance, but seeing my cat healthy and hydrated makes it 100% worth it!
