Yes...this is a great little machine

Is it possible to set the machine to not take messages?

Yes! The machine, once connected and set up, may be turned off without the need to disconnect anything. The phone rings and continues to ring until you answer it, just as if there is no machine to answer calls. When you want the machine to answer calls, you simply turn it on. The machine actually "talks" to you by saying: "The Machine is ON" -or- "The Machine is OFF"
