Is the blade detachable? So that you can display just the hilt?

Has anyone taken this as carry on on an airplane?

My 11 year son took one last december. It was an international flight. We were afraid they wouldnt let us bring it into the airplane but noone said anything.

Can I turn off the sound effects so I can use it as a home theater wall light?

There is no way to turn off the sound effects. However, you only hear sound when it is powered on/ off and contact with another lighsaber
