Would this be good for the Duke of Edinburgh expedition?

This was, in fact, the reason we bought this (DofE Bronze), but it ended up being superfluous as our son was loaned a slightly larger one by his Cadets group, which had to carry the group's shelter in it. My view would be to go one size up for DofE, if you have to buy your own, because they will likely have to carry a bit of extra equipment and it would be a tight squeeze alongside their other gear. Other than that, it's a pretty nice rucksack for short weekend getaways!

Does this back pack come with rain cover?

It has a shower cover which is rolled inside a zipped pocket, fixed at the bottom, when it's not needed
