Great case, but not the case for everyone
Joby's Gorillamobile Ori for iPad cover is revolutionary in its design and capability, but its not for everyone. I decided to get mine as part of a quest to find the right set of accessories for the iPad. I found other cases, including Apple's case to be less than useful as they did not stand up well, nor protect the device to the degree I was looking for. This is not the case in this case and perhaps its too much for some people. If you need a case like the ORI you will think its a 5 star. But then you are more likely a heavy users and road warrior who values function over style. If you are someone who uses their iPad sparingly, values it as a cool look and likes to carry it around for appearances as much as its applications, then take a pass on this one.I give this case a three star review in the hopes that people will read this to see if its the right one for them.'When Joby defined this as a Gorillamobile, they used the term to capture both the strength of this product and some of the personal muscular requirements for using it. The cover is more than a cover, it's a three position case that is truly remarkable in its design. However, the Ori for iPad is clearly meant to be used as a stand rather than a cover as the weight and bulk that makes it a very stable platform reduce its portability or use as a traditional `book type cover'.Its a clever design from its flexibility, to the padding on the inside cover that also provides a pad for your desktop. But this much flexibility comes at a cost. The cover does not close neatly as the top is slightly agape when the device is closed. The strength of this case almost mandates the use of a separate keyboard to make the device useful. Here is why, the piece that holds the iPad rotates meaning that its not locked into the rest of the case. In every mode this means that the iPad 'bounces' in response to your finger tip touch. This is acceptable when you are choosing apps, etc but is annoying if you want to type using the soft keyboard. The case is highly recommended for users who need a stable stand because they place the iPad on their desks rather than carry them around from meeting to meeting. It is also recommended for people who are frustrated by the Apple iPad case and its inability to stand up properly, then you will really enjoy this product. Its flexibility, stability and quality of the materials are all positive factors.I chose it because i am looking for something that is rugged, a good stand and will protect the device. The Ori does all of that well, but it is not perfect for everyone.Positive Points'The quality of the materials is exceptional as the case is brushed aluminum with multiple hinges that all work well despite their complexity. The folding process is easy to learn, after a few attempts you quickly learn how to make the case perform well.Flexibility is a main reason for purchasing this case. You want to hold your iPad stable in different positions. The ability to rotate the iPad is unique and very cool. The case holds the iPad securely and makes all of the ports available.Challenges and negative pointsThe case is heavy. It is much heavier than other cases and therefore people may be surprised by the weight and find it less usable. Personally, the weight does not bother me so much but others may find it a distraction. The device is clearly meant to be used as a stand rather than holding it in your hand. The case is thick almost doubling the width of the iPad in your briefcase. If you are relying on having something sleek that slides in and out of your briefcase or hand bag, this is not the case for you.The case is not pretty. The cover front is dominated by one of the aluminum fold outs so there is no smooth cover giving the device an industrial look. Other cases concentrate on their appearance over functionality. This is all function over appearance. The case, at least initially, smells a bit of machine oil. That may be a factor that the case is new, but the smell adds to the industrial feel of this product. The case has to be put down with care. The sides and edges are aluminum and while Joby has polished them, putting the case down with any force -- including that last few inches from your hand, can and already has created gouges and scratches in tables. Eliminating this would be hard since its a metal case, so you need to be careful.I can see people wanting to get a cloth sleeve ala a shoe bag type thing to protect the device from scratching as well as scratching the rest of the stuff in your briefcase.Every case has its compromises, something I have learned by looking at the Apple case, a simple aftermarket case, the DODOcase and the ZAGGmate case. These other cases were lacking the ability to provide a solid base for the iPad that would facilitate its use in standard office work. The ORI overdoes the stability part to the detriment of a few other aspects noted in this review. So is not for everybody but for right now it looks to be the best for me.

GREAT MOBILE MOUNT FOR IPAD2
Got the Joby Gorillamobile Ori to mount my iPad2 in my car. I have a center console equipment mount and laptop platform. This fit nicely on the laptop desk and attached with 2 strong bungee cords. Overall pretty happy with the job it does, although the headphone plug and controls do not line up correctly with the case to the point where they are unusable. While this is a problem that requires popping the iPad2 out if you want to use the external controls, it is however a good holder for the iPad.I like the ability to change positioning on several axis. It makes a little noise when I drive on some roads. 2 Folded napkins placed in between the metal dampened the sound somewhat. I have not used this anywhere but my car, so I can not comment on it's use as a carry around device.

Close but no cigar
The good.: Will work as a light duty travel case if you are just carrying it around or want to shove it in a backpack or suitcase. Great for photo slideshow display or tabletop display. The bad: Clever design but fails miserably on the basics. The on off control switch and the volume control are completely useless. If you want to use those switches you must remove the device to access them. Same with the headphone jack. It is off by 1/4" and on my unit needed to be dremmeled and the plug cut so I could get it to work with my output cord. Big heads up to anyone who gets one. The material that protects the screen is also the same surface that is on whatever you put the case down on. It picks up any dirt, debris and junk since its quite soft by design and embeds it into the surface that is suppose to protect the screen when closed. Make sure you keep that clean or it's going to ruin the very thing you bought it to protect. SC

Might be the BEST iPad stand ever
I must say I have owned over 7 expensive iPad stands if not more and I must say this is one if not the best of them all. It's very sturdy and all my other stands and cases broke! The great thing about the many uses of the stand is you have enough height choices for your viewing pleasure. It can stand TALL or just be angled a little while being on your lap or a flat surface. That's yet another great thing about this product that it's wide enough to put on a uneven surface like your lap or bed and still be able to rotate it to your desired angle and direction. This thing folds, angles, and rotates in so many ways I don't see many other stands or cases who could do all this and yet still be a case at the same time to protect your iPad all in one. It's a must have and believe me I could get into all the money I spent with trial and error in so many products only to wish i had found this one since the beginning. It wasn't easy to find either for some reason as I ran by it by accident and so glad I did. I'm surprised more people don't know about it as I get a ton of attention when people see it and everyone tells me it's a must have and are getting one. Finally I found a keeper. Its worth every penny!

Did not fit
This was my third Ori. The first one broke (rivets popped through one of the joints) within 6 months. They replaced it under warranty at no charge. The replacement did the same thing about 6 months but they would not replace it under warranty. I reluctantly purchased another because I really like the design and function. Alas my iPad did not fit snugly enough to hold it in place and there was no opening for the camera lens! Returned for refund.

Great product, but didn't last...
I bought this product from Amazon about 9 months ago for just under £30. It has been great, and used almost every day since. The design of the product is excellent, however it recently developed a fault where the little stand that pulls out to hold the IPAD in the normal typing position broke off right where the plastic flexi's. It has had a good amount of use, but no more than should be considered normal for domestic use. So I thought I woul write this review to make others aware of this, especially as it appears to have almost doubled in price. So only 3 stars from me.
