Review: When the filter is noisy this thing needs to be replaced - Apparently the shaft wears down after a couple years of continuous use. The extra clearance allows the magnet to bounce around and bang into the side of the housing continuously. The housing doesn't appear to be negatively affected, because after replacing the impeller, the filter is back to its original fairly silent noise level. We let it get to the point of obnoxiousness and instantly had audible relief after install. Obviously easy to install - the impeller is in the lid of the filter with a twist lock cap. The price is high for what it is - so minus one star for the value.
