Reliance Products Aqua-Pak 2.5 Gallon Rigid Water Container Blue, 9.3 Inch x 7.5 Inch x 12.0 Inch

I have this same jug in the 7 gal size and although they look similar this 2.5 is much thinner material, The 7 gal is bullet proof you can use it as a step stool even if its empty and the bleed/air valve is threaded with rubber seal (proper). This one is not close to that quality, a tapered plastic pin that pushes in? eventually either the pin will wear out or the orifice on the jug will lose its ability to seal. Not to mention if you are traveling with this full of liquid and it tips over you run the risk of this bleed valve to leak or pop open then your screwed. I would give it a 2 star but as the company offers a 5 year warranty, they claim to stand behind their product...keeping in mind that if the time ever came will they honor that warranty? I would have preferred to pay more and have the same quality as their larger model, thought thats what I was getting. Update: Short story of how I use this water container, I have a RO water system installed and fill this container before I go to work which is a 48 hour shift then I bring it back home. At work it sits in my room at a fire station. I stand corrected regarding the quality, about 6 months ago I had just filled it and my daughter knocked it off the kitchen counter and landed on the bottom step of a step stool and it got a small bruise but did not break WOW!!! The other part of this container I felt to be suspect is the vent plug, well its been a couple of years of frequent use and its as tight as day one. So I gladly upgrade the stars from 3 to 5 stars....

These are the perfect size to bring along camping. These jugs carry quite a bit of water but aren't so big that it makes it impossible to carry to and from the car or to and from the refill station at a campground. I've found that the 5 to 7 gallon jugs are just too cumbersome and hernia inducing.

Update: I bought a replacement cap and spigot on sale and got things working. Turns out the gasket on the original cap must not have been seated properly. (Not my fault…came that way.) I removed it with a butter knife and put it back, and now it works. Of course, the replacement spigot is so tight it’s impossible to turn, so now I’m trying to fix that. If I can, then I will have two caps and spigots, which is nice in case something happens to one. Still taking a star off, though, as it just shouldn’t be this hard and require me to figure out how to fix a brand new container. But I’m glad it’s going to be useful now, at least. This is the first time I’ve ever bought one of these. I want to start camping and thought having one would be handy. When the package arrived, the Amazon box contained the manufacturer’s box. The manufacturer’s box had clearly been cut open and resealed. You guessed it…this container leaks around the cap. No matter how careful you are or how tightly it’s turned, it leaks if you put the container on its side to use the spigot. So basically, someone already returned this as defective, and Amazon took this defective container and shipped it to me. Thanks, Amazon. I have way too much going on to make a return on this. As long as the container stays upright, it will hold water, and that’s enough for a camping trip. The leak is slow enough that I can simply lay it on its side when I need to fill one of my water bottles. But dang. I will never buy this again off of Amazon. And maybe not buy this brand ever again, given the other folks who say they have the same problem with leaks. What a disappointment. Wish this were the first time I bought what turned out to be a piece of garbage off of Amazon, but it’s not. It’s getting old.

Perfect for my needs. At 70 years old, I find it difficult to lift and carry 5 gallons of water. 2-1/2 gallons should be doable, times two when I need 5 gallons. I know these are durable. The fact they are square and stackable will make storage easier. I am consider getting two or four more, to supplement the two in this purchase.

During the summer I was filling empty cat litter jugs with the condensate from my portable a/c to flush my toilet (plumbing issue in old cabin, no running water inside). Living in Florida that a/c was putting out gallons a day. Since ‘winter’ has arrived, I’ve had to switch to filling jugs at the well for flushing. This little beauty sits perfectly on the countertop which is level with the toilet tank. The spigot allows for easy filling of the tank and the 2.5 gallon size makes it easy for an old woman to lift up on the counter. I’ve acquired several and find them quite useful and the price is right. You do what you’ve got to do.

Attention preppers (or those who simply want to be prepared for a power outage, earthquake, the Zombie Apocalypse, End Times, etc): I got tired of buying plastic jugs of water that had to be used and discarded every few months lest the water/plastic combo go bad. So after reading many, many reviews (when did shopping for mundane objects become so complicated?), I settled on this Reliance water container and after testing one out (no leaks after a month and the water stored inside tastes fine), I plan on ordering a few more. They're BPA-free, small enough to be able to pick up without putting your back out, the spigot stores inside the cap and thus doesn't break off easily, and, well, they do the trick. You still need to replace the water every few months, but your house plants certainly won't complain. Join me and stop the vicious cycle of buying one-gallon jugs of water!

I honestly don't know what the 1-2 stars are about. This is a super product. My buddy has the same thing but 7 gallon so I was already familiar with the design and found it to be reliable. I have to admit that I hesitated ordering it because of the 1 -2 star reviews, but I ordered it anyway and after testing mine I can address the most common alleged weaknesses. "It leaks from the spout" Mine leaked at first... til I realized I had overtightened the spout onto the tank. So I unscrewed it and tightened it down gently... tipped it back over into position... saw a few drips... tightened it down until the drips stopped. PROBLEM SOLVED "It leaks from the plug" There's a small opening for letting air in to displace the water running out. It has a stopper to keep bugs and crud out when not in use. This opening is NEVER liable to leak unless you lay the tank on its side when not in use... which is not advisable. The plug is just that--- a small plug for air that a 5 year old can pull out and push in as needed; IT'S NOT A VALVE AND IT ISN'T INTENDED TO WITHSTAND THE WATER PRESSURE OF THE TANK BEING LAID ON ITS SIDE. So stop trying to make it do something it wasn't designed for! When transporting the tank, keep the valve and the plug upright! PROBLEM SOLVED "It smells inside." Yeah, it smells like plastic inside... when you first get it, because I guess it's factory fresh. I let mine sit on the shelf for a couple of weeks fully open so it could "off-gas" --- no smell, and no taste. PROBLEM SOLVED "The plastic is thin." or "The plastic is thinner than it is on the bigger sizes". This was the criticism that had me the most concerned when I ordered it --- I pictured super thin, like milk jug thin and bulging. Not the case at all. First, it's more than sufficiently thick for 2.5 gallons, and maybe only just a LITTLE thinner than its bigger brother. Second --- and more to the point --- OF COURSE it's not going to be as thick as the larger models --- that would be overkill. A 7 gallon tank has to carry 58 pounds, while the 2.5 just 21 pounds! PLASTIC IS PLENTY THICK In summary, this is a good value and I highly recommend it.

Update. We lost another one. We actually use ours for about 90 days a year and that may make a difference. The latest one to fail is 8 years old and first thing to fail was the valve. The moving part spins inside a tube and seals against it when closed. The thin plastic around this cracked so the valve leaked. We rigged it to work with a cable tie. See pic. So, not that well made. Then more recently the plastic itself just got brittle and broke open. It's aged out. We don't allow these to be in the sun as we don't want more plastic leaching into our drinking water but anyway, it's probably UV. I hear people who barely use them praising them up but these are disposable jugs at a fairly high price which are marginally better than the other disposable jugs. Mainly the size fits our van build and we want to keep using them rather than switch to another system. We have various Reliant jugs and keep using the caps and valves. But they are not great and could most definitely be improved, especially since the price has nearly doubled in 8 years. To sum up the faults: 1) plastic has limited life in use. Expect 5 years, not 10 and not lifetime. 2) valve is not a robust design thin plastic cracks with use. 3) Valve entry thread is not normal standard 1/2" threads so no, you can't use a better valve, I've tried. 4) Where valve lands in the threading is random so when you tighten down the cap to seal it may be pointing any direction, including the one it should. Poor design. Something could be a slip fit or a capture thread. 5) Plastic body is not that sturdy. Protect from abrasion on the bottom and keep far away from sun. 6) Ventilation plug will get lost. No there are not reasonably priced replacements. You have to buy some $10 kit to get a plastic plug that's worth 1 cent. We tied a cord to the broken plug to keep it around. Really, they could do better if they cared. People are used to pure junk and this is much better than that. It's a halfway good design priced too high and never improved. Whomever started Reliant had a good idea but somebody could easily do better. Of course in this day and age, it will be some fancy overbuilt electronic bluetooth controlled model made out of titanium and sold for $300 to the elite for bragging rights. All we really need is a company that will try and do better than just good enough. For now, it's the best size to quality ratio we are seeing available. If you don't count price. $27 is too much. Older review: I found these for use in a size critical situation. We have two of their 7 gallon narrow containers but they don't fit nor sit well in our new camper van. These 2.5 G ones fit perfectly! We bought two and used them for about 8 weeks of camping last summer and then this summer after another 3 weeks one of them began to leak. It had worn through on the bottom where it sits on concrete or gravel or the picnic table, where ever. I did not have the option to return nor receive replacements while boondocking, so I repaired it provisionally. I knew the repair on this type of plastic wouldn't last and ordered another when we got out of the boonies. Once we got our replacement I then cut the bottom off of the worn out one and glued it as a protective "shoe" onto the other one. This should help the other one last longer, but I had to buy two to get one that was sufficiently durable. Really - RELIANT: THE PLASTIC NEEDS TO BE THICKER. We have had other Reliant products and been very satisfied with the durability of the actual jug . This 2.5 gallon one, while almost as costly as our larger 7 gallon jugs is not even close to the quality of the 7 gal container by any means. Those are heavy duty. I hope that Reliant recognizes this and can spend a few cents more for sufficient plastic at the bottom and just raise the price if they really can't afford enough plastic to make it durable at $14. Heck, charge us a dollar more and make 'em last! It really sucks to be "relying" on your water container and have them fail in the field.

I ended up coaching my son’s soccer team this year and the kids were using up their water so quickly so I wanted to get something so they could refill their water bottles! This was the perfect solution! The perfect capacity but not too heavy even when full! I know it will be great for camping as well!
