What’s the least amount of worms needed for a 50gal water drum (laying horizontal) that’s 50% full of compost?

Worms populate according to space, food and water supply, and predator success rates. You can't have too few or too many.

Are these raised organic?

Since there growing in organic matter I would think so

Can these be used in a composted in the winter/snow?

Mine seem to be dying right now. I am hoping some will "hibernate" in the middle of my worm farm but I am not a worm specialist. In any case, I would not buy worms in the winter to add to a composter if you live in a region with snow/freezing temperatures. They will be fine up to 45-50F. Another solution is to bring your composter inside.
