The Flash Vol. 12: Death and the Speed Force Hardcover – 9 Jun. 2020

“Flash – Death and the Speed Force” collects issues #76-81 of the ongoing ‘Crisis in the Speed Force’ that has emerged from the recent Justice League Cosmic Catastrophe event.For those that didn’t notice, the ‘Year One’ storyline in the previous volume has once more reset the Flash’s time-line – I didn’t realise this until I got to the final panel of it when Iris brings her nephews to meet Barry…Anyway, we open her with the Flash showing off his (and Commander Cold’s) new secret Flash-Cave - hidden inside the Flash Museum – to Wally Two and Avery, where the Commander is tracking outbreaks of the new Forces released by the above-mentioned Cosmic Catastrophe.These forces are interfering with the Speed-Force, and an ‘antibody’ is trying to destroy them, or at least the people empowered by them, which brings another scarlet speedster into the game, who wants to help that process along. The Flash-pack naturally want to fix the problem without having to kill anyone, though everyone else mostly have other ideas about that.This is a much more interesting story than the Trickster’s and the Turtle’s in the preceding volumes, helped by more ‘realistic’ and less cartoony artwork, which adds an extra dimension to the story for me.
