When the ice maker tried to dump the ice, sometimes some of the ice cubes remained in the tray. Now, when the ice cups are filled with water, there was too much water added because some of the cups still contained the ice cubes that did not dump. This caused the cubes to be larger than what they should be and consequently they (sometimes) would not dump out of the ice cups. The ice maker would now add more water but the ice cups were already filled with the ice cubes that did not dump. This caused the ice cubes to freeze into a block of ice that might or might not dump into the ice bin and certainly was too big to pass through the ice dispenser on the door. Replacing the ice maker was the simplest solution. Be sure and view the YouTube videos that show how to replace the ice maker.
