Braun Series 5 Electric Shaver
This review is written after a few months of usage. For comparison, let me explain that I have been using a razor for shaving and that has always given me a very close shave, but obviously I would often end up with scratches and small cuts. Also I have used the Philips OneBlade and have been very impressed with that especially for the cheap price I paid (£27). I saw the Braun Series 5 shaver for sale at £65 and made an impulse buy to try it out. First impressions were that it looked good quality and easy to operate. I shaved with it and found it was not as close as razor shaving, but it was satisfactory enough for attending the office for work, and definitely good enough for video calls when working from home. I did receive a couple of tiny scratches on my first few shaves, but certainly nothing at all compared to the razor shaving, or the Philips OneBlade. The Braun shaver struggled with longer hairs, that the Philips OneBlade had no problem, e.g. if I had not shaved for several days. For cleaning, the Braun is easy to clean - the top detaches and can be rinsed under the tap. The hair seems to be almost completely collected within the top chamber. With the Philips OneBlade, I need to clear the sink area of other items before I begin shaving so I can more easily clean away all the hairs that fly everywhere. None of that nonsense is necessary with this Braun shaver. The charger came with a UK style 2-pin plug, i.e. you will need an adapter if you take it abroad, even for countries with a 2-round-pin socket. I discovered in the past with my Philips OneBlade, the European 2-pin socket is not the same as the UK 2-pin socket. I really wish electrical gadget manufacturers would wake up to the 21st century and convert their gadgets to USB charging instead of persisting with these stupid 2-pin 20th century rubbish. So far I seem to be able to do several shaves before the battery recharge warning, and I'm happy with that. Charging is fast enough that it hasn't caused me any problem yet to notice it being too slow. I have now given up razor shaving and although it is not as close as razor shaving, in my case it is good enough, and on the plus side I now rarely get any cuts or scratches. Also I can use the Braun for a dry-shave, e.g. it is great for those days when I don't need or have time in the morning to shave, i.e. at the same time I have a shower. Instead I can now dry-shave later in the day when I need it, although I could do that before with the Philips OneBlade. However compared to the Philips OneBlade, this Braun makes less mess and is a marginally closer shave. It is obviously more expensive than the Philips OneBlade, but by making less mess, the Braun Series 5 is now my preferred method of shaving, and I only use the OneBlade if I've allowed my beard to grow for several days. Do I think this shaver is a good buy? The answer is definitely yes it is a good buy at the price I paid. I would have been willing to pay slightly more (£5-10) if it had USB charging.

Nice, but I prefer my old 3040s
I had a Braun 3040s for 5 years and the battery life became poor (3 days) and it needed a new foil (25 pounds) so I opted to replace it with this one. I thought the 5-series was meant to be better than the 3, but the actual foil head is identical except for a weirdly large plastic surround. It is meant to be easy to clean, but the design change to enable this has meant that the long hair trimmer is now a separate clip-on part replacing the foil, rather than a pop-up. Thus you have to take the foil head off every time you use the trimmer at which point you might as well wash the foil properly. So I don't think they really thought it through. The shave is fine, it is a new foil so in that sense bound to be better than the old one. I find it odd to hold, but that might just need getting used to. Otherwise I see no real functional difference to my old one. Battery life is very good (2 weeks plus) and there are three levels of indicator. Note to blade users considering a switch; electric razors will never be as close as a blade whatever the makers say. But electrics are (to me) relatively benign to skin and the stubble is less sharp when it inevitably grows. I find electrics much easier to use, so shaving twice a day is no trouble. On the other hand, I last used blades in the era of BIC disposables which gave a much younger me the 'attacked by a werewolf' look; I am sure blades have moved on since then.

Comfortable shave
I have been using S3 for years and as my sixth was expiring had to think of options. Trouble is that the NiMh battery only lasts so long and after the cost and hassle of replacing them and the new foil it's been easier to get new, great for Braun but not the planet! Tried the S5 now you can get it at a lot less than the outrageous RRP and it has a lithium battery. Very good. Shaves a lot closer and faster and lasts more than 2 weeks on a charge. Shame replacement foils are even pricier. Now lusting after an S9 but I'm not a lottery winner.

Great shaver
After having been a lifetime Philishave customer, I decided to change because they only last 2 years. Here's my findings so far: * It gives a closer shave than the Philishave. The only exception is around your mouth. You have to put more effort to avoid hairs getting avoided altogether * The trimmer is MUCH better than the one on the Philishave. And you can get additional ones so it works as a proper strimmer as well as a shaver! Nice! * Seems to be more resilient to being washed than the Philishave. When my most recent one failed to function and I opened it up, it was all wet inside. The design of the Braun seems to be better to resist that! * The two downsides I see with the Braun is that 1. there's no bag supplied with it so you have to get one for hygiene reasons and 2. you are recommended to replace the foil after 18 months. These are not far off being as expensive as the shaver. Not sure how important that is. However, very happy with this unit. Great buy!

Why would you want something that is clearly second best?
Why would you want something that is clearly second best? My mother came into my room with her companion dog. He has a habit of stealing things, and my mother rewards him with treats in order to get things back. On this occasion, he stole the shaver head of my Series 7 Braun shaver. At the time, I thought nothing of it. But a few days later, I realised that his teeth had damaged it. I was somewhat shocked at the price of a new Series 7 shaver, or a replacement head £31. So this Braun shaver which seemed to do most things a Series 7 could do, seemed like a good idea. What I would say, is that it is a basic shaver that does the job. The shaver head does not look as if you could take it off and wash it with water after every shave. The blades are encased in plastic. Another strange thing, is that if you want a trimmer, you take off the shaver head, and put on the trimmer head. It might seem like a good idea, but it is inconvenient. I imagine it is only a question of time before I lose the trimmer head. I am going to see how cheap I can get a Series 7 shaver. This will be a temporary replacement. People don't really have 'two' shavers. It does not make much sense. ++++++ I have successfully returned this shaver and bought a Philips3000 for the same price. The Philips shaver is very nicely finished. I used Philips shavers with three heads before switching to Braun. I have also ordered a new foil for my Braun Series 7. What I have noticed is that the Braun Series 5 and 7 now have a new type of head and body. Personally I don't like it!

Good shaver
Saw some reviews that suggested that this doesn't give a great shave, but I've found the exact opposite and would say it gives a much better shave than the 5000 series model it replaced. Shaver head quality and the battery life are good. Have knocked a star off because the shaver head size and shape means it's a bit fiddly to shave between top lip + nose at first. Also a bit noisier than many other shavers (not ideal for an en-suite or hotel room if your partner is trying to sleep?). Overall though, very happy with it.

Cargador no compatible
