I used to buy this leader wire at a local sporting goods store, but they closed years ago. I use this leader wire to build several different types of leaders for both slfresh water and salt water fishing. Such as fire trout, large mouth bass, crappie rigs, black drum, and such. I use the black coated wire along with black coated crimp sleeves. As the leader is not as visible as the uncoated leader wire.

I use this coated wire to tie skirts on jigs,spinnerbaits and blades jigs. Works awesome! No more skirts falling of the jig!

This review is specific to using this as a downrigger line. A few years ago I needed some new coated downrigger cable for my Depth Raider speed and temp probe. The coating is necessary to prevent RF signal loss. And rather than pay a kings ransom for the Depth Raider product (300' of 150lb test for $55), I subbed in a 300' spool of this 135lb Suflon, saved almost $20, received it the next day and have had zero issues! In fact, this cable does NOT peel and lose it's coating like the "real" coated downrigger wire. And even though it's rated 15lb lower, it's plenty strong, never lost a weight even if dragging bottom. Just be thorough with your crimping and you'll never have a problem. Recently bought a second roll to put on my new downrigger but this review is based off of 3 seasons use on the first spool, so rest assured it works and it lasts!

This has become my absolute favourite wire for my pike fishing. I use the 40lb and use it for my traces and uptraces (uptraces are then covered in .75 anti-tangle tube). It seems to last well as well unlike some wire that are completely useless after one jack. I haven't crimped it as I prefer to twist and this does the job fine. 300' spools last a very long time! Also highly recommend afw 45lb bleeding leader too which I have just started using for uptraces (which again, I have found can be twisted!)

Great product, slow delivery.

I used this product to construct homemade wire fishing leaders for freshwater fishing on the Great Lakes and elsewhere. The black colour that I chose was ideal for the water colour and clarity conditions where I fish. I have landed some very large and toothy fish with these leaders and have found them to very sturdy and durable. I would highly recommend them to anyone else for this same application.
