Piscifin Sword Fly Fishing Reel
This is a very impressive fly reel. It its extremely well made, light, great looking and very smooth with an excellent drag. I currently have forward tapered #4 floating fly line loaded on this reel making a superb small stream fly fishing outfit. What especially appeals to me about this reel is that that it is constructed of beautifully CNC machined 606T-T6 aluminum alloy and much stronger than the die cast reel it replaced. I like the one way clutch bearing for quick hook ups and this that reel is sealed to protect from corrosion. The smooth cork and stainless steel drag is really nice in helping reduce break offs when using a very light tippet when fighting large trout (when lucky enough to hook one). This reel has so many great features at a very reasonable price. The quality to cost ratio is amazing and based on other reviews I have read, I see I am just one of many fans of this reel. This is now my favorite fly reel for trout fishing. I highly recommend this reel and this will be my go to fly reel brand and model if I need a larger fly reel in the future for bass fishing. Now all I need to do is purchase a second spool so I do a quick change of lines when conditions require a different line.

Quality reel for the price.
I was a bit skeptical about a reel as inexpensive as this one...but figured I would give it a try. I wanted a few more large arbor reels for extra poles. I purchased both the 7/8 and the 9/10 line size reels. I've been very pleased with these reels so far. I've used them for several days fishing so far and the reels works great. It has a very smooth reeling action and the drag is very nice. The reel is very solid and seems to be just as good of quality as the $200+ reels I own. The overall construction, looks and feels very similar to my Hardy and Pflueger reels. So far, it was a great purchase for a good price. Time will tell if the bearings and the drag components have a long lifespan similar to the expensive reels. So far I'm really impressed with this reel. I honestly can't tell the difference between it and my expensive reels when actually using it other than it doesn't make any sound when reeling in, only when the line is being pulled out does it make the click sound. I actually prefer this to having to hear the clicking while reeling in.

A fairly good deal for the casual fly fisherman.
First let me start by declaring that I have not been bribed by this company to give a good review. I bought the product via Prime and am somewhat alarmed that Amazon is allowing vendors to bend reviews by giving product away for free or at a discount. I don't care that people claim to be giving a "fair and balanced" review, you still have to add an appropriate discount to their cheerleading. For reference, I have about 20 premium, moderate and inexpensive fly reels and bought this one (and a few others from China) out of curiosity. This reel is very well machined, especially when you factor in the cost. I worked in a machine shop a long time ago and have a critical eye for poorly machined metal. The job on this Sword reel (I have the green one) is better than good. I am not convinced that the Sword is hard anodized or that it has a cork disc drag, however, I think the finish will be durable enough and out of the box the drag feels smooth. My 2 caveats with this reel are based on the drag system. The drag adjustment dial is loosely threaded such that it spins easily and quickly goes from light to heavy. I would not want to be on a big steelhead and accidentally bump the dial or lock it down by mistake while adjusting it with a fish on. Secondly, there are no instructions on disassembling the complicated drag system to clean it and it is difficult to figure this out yourself. My experience with two other inexpensive Chinese fly reels is that the drag washers need to be periodically cleaned and lubed since the drag is not fully enclosed like more expensive reels. I occasionally use another one from Piscifun for trout fishing and if I don't clean the drag every few times, it will lock up due to the oxidation on the washers. To say that the Sword drag is as good as reels costing 5 times as much is ridiculous. If you buy a Lamson fly reel for example, you get an almost foolproof drag system that needs zero maintenance and can be counted on to work the same way every time. I also have an Okuma SLV reel that costs a few dollars more than the Sword, but has a better multi-disc drag system that is easy to disassemble and clean and has held up to big saltwater fish without a hiccup. The SLV isn't as pretty and has a little more play in the parts, but is rugged and proven to work under tough conditions. The Piscifun Sword is prettier with tighter tolerances and is cheaper, but with money on the line I'd rather use the Okuma. If you're not angling for fast running fish or are a casual fly fisherman this reel will look good on your rod and will probably do a decent job. If you're a serious fly fisherman I'd look elsewhere. Update: 05.29.16: I've used this 3 times for monster cutthroats (3-13lbs) at Pyramid Lake NV and have come to the conclusion that the drag sucks. It is inconsistent both in startup inertia and also spins with inconsistent tension when the fish runs. None of this caused me to lose any of the big cuts, however, I was using 12lb tippet and cutthroats are not big screamers. I've got this at the bottom of my reel drawer at this point.

I must be one of the lucky ones.
First off, the reel feels really solid. Mine had no play at all. It free spins smoothly as well. I purchased the reel before reading all of the bad reviews first. It's dumb, I know, but I needed a cheap fix and this reel fit the bill. The first thing I checked was the reel seat. On mine, the screws went all the way through and weren't stripped; it's solid. The second thing I tested was the drag. I've read that it goes from free spool to 100% drag in three clicks. Not the case for me. The drag is very gradual and smooth. I bought the 5/6wt version for panfish and smaller bass. I wanted to test it out, but the closest water to me was saltwater, so I tied on a chartreuse/white deceiver and made some casts against the grass from the shore. On my third cast, I hooked into a 23-inch or so redfish. With a 6lb leader, I couldn't really muscle it in, so the drag got a good workout. It never seized up or got inconsistent. After about five minutes, I got cut off when the fish went under a dock. I feel 100% confident that this reel will hold up to anything I'll be using it for. Final note: a lot of the bad reviews I've read seem to be from years ago, so maybe they ironed out the kinks by now. I'm a happy customer.

Excellent Quality for the Price
Excellent quality for the price. Five days of casting so far and no complaints. Premium look, quality feel, very light for its size, and a smooth drag system. I wouldn’t hesitate to get another when I need one in a different weight.

Smmooooth !
Read the other reviews. I already purchased another Fly reel. I bought this one a I have no regrets ! This reel is not the cheapest and by far not anywhere near the most expensive. As a beginner it is perfect ! It is smooth as butter pealing line off as well retrieving it. The drag is like silk. As a spin/bait casting, conventional fisherman for over 50 years I thought I would finally give fly fishing a try. This reel couldn't perform any better. It holds plenty of line, perfect balanced to my pole and is machined beautifuly. I am not sure what they could do to make it better ? Well worth the price !!

Fantastic reel for the price
Great reel for the price. CNC machined, large arbor, makes it one of the best rated fly reels for the price. Truly feels like a $200 reel. Matched it with my Beula 4wt rod for a beautiful and amazing combo! The drag is awesome for this reel. I have a few cheapies that look great and hold line well, but don’t perform nearly as well as this. So glad I purchased it!

Great performer for the price with great support
I have been using these reels since 2018 and have 3 with extra spools. The cork friction disc disintegrated in one and I recently contacted Piscifun. They didn't have any spare discs at the time but said they would send me one when they did. Two months later a package arrives with two replacement discs, now made from what seems like a synthetic weaved material... Superb service! The reels themselves have been good performers for me. Easy to take a part and maintain. The drag can slacken off over a days fishing now and again but this is a minor quibble. I use them with the Piscifun fly rod and have had many trout with this setup.

Good quality
Quality is good. But what supprized me was the amazing customer service and support. Thank you for your fast response and taking care of your customers. Initially gave lower rating but now changed it to higher. Pro: good CNC work Large arbour Good tension Light weight Cons: Drag setting is hit and miss The stop-washer for reel knob is not reliable
