The description says it is 2.25" high and 7" wide. That doesn't seem right.. Exactly how tall is the staff?

We measured the staff it is 56-inches in length. The other answer seemed more like a general size not the exact size.

i need the stick for my daughter, but it's too long. Can i use only top part (half of the stick)? How long is the top of it?

The stick is hollow. Difficult to cut and it not collapse. My 4 year old grand daughter loves hers. It does not 'look' to long for her. That ball is right over the top of her head. Different than the movie stick but it has lasted through sword fights and baton twirls. I would not cut it. But if you did. Cut it from the narrow bottom and fill the hole with hot glue then wrap it with brown duct tape. I think some type of modification will work. It is light weight so some bottom weight would be good.

How tall is this walking stick?

It's between 4 1/2 and 5' tall - I'm tall (5'9") and it was a perfect height for me. Not very sturdy (comes in 2 pieces you screw together) but it works for walking around if you don't need it to bear any weight.

Would this work for a wizard staff? As in, Merlin's staff?

Yes this staff could work as a stand-alone, generic wizard's staff.
