BLACKHAWK KNOXX PowerPak System Modular Cheek Piece and Ammo Carrier - Black ( Gun Stock Not Included)

The media could not be loaded. I've always been a Blackhawk fan so was really stoked when ordering this item because I just KNEW I'd be happy with it. I've got a Remington 870 Tactical that I've been slowly building up for home defense practicality and range sessions and the Knoxx PowerPak was one of the necessary additions. I needed something that would allow me to have separated ammo on the gun me in case I needed extra punch or range without having to scramble for the right shell....I keep birdshot in the tube magazine and buckshot in the stock side saddle before I go to bed at night. The 5 shot side saddle is freaking awesome...very very study and well built but WOW getting shells into it the first time was practically a workout....after about a week with shells sitting in the saddle it is perfectly snug and not so difficult to pull shells out/put new shells in while STILL holding them so tight that even if you drop the shotgun they wont come loose. As for the battery compartment....theres not much to say aside from it works, and is seemingly waterproof so your batteries are pretty much ready to rock whenever you need em. It's not hard to put on and I have no idea how others have had issues with it scratching their stocks up or whatever. My shotgun is coated and it still didnt scratch. I did submit a quick video of how easy it is to be proficient with quickly reloading using the saddle... I love Blackhawk!

Made this additional to my Mossberg 500 Tactical 12 gauge which was already equipped with the Black Hawk stock and forend. Comes with two cheek pieces; one low for using traditional bead front sight, and another higher cheek piece for use with raised sights/scopes, etc. The unit also comes with a 5 round cartridge holder and a storage compartment for holding CR123 lithium batteries for flashlights or other battery operated accessories. Putting the parts together is a little frustrating; the shell holder is straight forward, you use the supplied ball-end wrench and install the screws through the pre-drilled holes on the other side of the cheek piece where the storage compartment mounts, the pain comes in when you begin to install the storage compartment. You have to bend the cheek piece outward to gain enough clearance for the wrench to install the screws while simultaneously aligning the screws with the holes (which are not perfectly lined up)and threading them in. Once assembled, the unit snaps securely onto the adjustable stock, and the rise of the low cheek piece that I'm using is the perfect height. Wanted to be able to shorten the pull on my Remington 870, which this does. The cheek piece, however, makes me feel like the gun is punching me in the face every time I shoot. I added some padding to the cheek piece, but The only real fix I've found is EXTENDING THE STOCK, which is defeating my purpose for purchasing this set. If not for the shell carrier and pistol grip, I'd just go back to the old wooden stock. Also, fore grip really has no means of mounting a light or other accessories. Had I known any of this, I would not have bought this set. That said, it is of stout construction, was fairly easy to install, and fit the gun well overall.

I love my BlackHawk stock and ordered the shell holder expecting to be just as happy but not even close. It is a ROYAL PAIN to assemble, it is made of VERY hard rigid plastic and seems very brittle. The shell holder is so hard I thought I was going to need a hammer to get the shells in it *good note they sure will not fall out* *bad note...you wont get them out quickly in an emergency* Very disappointed over all. Not made with same material as their stock and front grip which is great. I can easily see personal injury from the rock hard cheek rest! Not sure I am going to leave it on or not.

I read a lot of the reviews before purchasing the cheek piece. I did this with trepidation as I saw a lot of complaints about how hard it was to install. I don't get it. I followed the directions, step by step and it was a snap.Twenty minutes tops and the only tool needed was the supplied ball-end allen wrench. I think most of the complaints came from people not following the instructions. It's the same people that end up with a hand full of nuts and bolts after they're done with a project.Shell holder is a little tight but should loosen with time. This is OK as I pull my shells from below. I get paranoid that the shells will fall out if it gets too loose.It has a solid feel and looks awesome. The high cheek piece aligns my eye perfectly with my red dot sight. I also like the way it moves my cheek more to the side of the gun.

The installation and performance of the BLACKHAWK PowerPak System was in line with much of the other reviewes I have read. Installation of the shell holder and the system itself was a breeze. However, installation of the battery/storage compartment was more difficult that it has to be but do-able. I did not rate this item a 5 because of the difficulty of installing and retracting the 3 inner shells from the shell holder. No problem with the two out side shells. I will try later to remedy the problem with a dowel rod and sand paper. Still a well made and welcomed accessory to my Mossberg 500. It not only looks great but gives me another option on the type of shells I can use in a home defense situation. Also, the high cheek piece lines up perfectly with my Red Dot sight. I would recommend this system to anyone who would like to have a little extra ammo close by if needed.
