First I spent some time preparing the set by sanding the remains of the previous stain away while providing a decent key for the new stuff to go on to. I then began to apply the stain and found it’s really easy to work with and goes a lot further than I expected. A 750ml tin did a full coat on the table, stand and all four chairs with a splash left for touch ups. It dries quickly and it dries well providing what seems to be a solid coat and seal over the top of the wood. I don’t think long term chipping will be a problem with the moderate traffic we will have on it. I kept the set in the garage for a few days after as I didn’t want it out in the elements straight away while giving it adequate time to cure. It’s been out in use now for a week or so and seems to be faring well after some light use and the occasional wet weather we have had. I did only apply a single coat as I didn’t have the time and couldn’t warrant the expense of applying the recommended three. It looks a lot better than what it did before application and I am very pleased with the results. Time will tell how long it lasts, but I’m not expecting a lifetime as Everbuild do obviously recommend three coats. Overall I am very pleased with the finished results and it was definitely worth £10 and an afternoon of my time to carry out the job.
