Has a bit of a heel, but not so much that you can't put and arch support in them. The time it takes to get them, and would be cool to be able to change out chains...but other than that I love these boots. I had another pair I wore for a couple years and I was so happy when I saw these available again. Fairly sturdy, have not had problem of scuffs as I have had in other shoes and boots.
