We have four.** A: I would say two max. I have two cats and they would not share so I ended up getting another one. If your cats like to cuddle then one would be good for two cats. **Q: How do you get suspicious feral cats to go inside?** A: Simply place the Cato where they habitate, and the cats Will be naturally drawn to it. They will recognise it as Shelter. **Q: How does the heater work? Is there a thermostat?** A: It is essentially a round, low heat heating pad. There is no thermostat. If you want to control the on/off you could get a thermostatic plug that will keep it off unless the temp goes below freezing. I place it on the bottom ofthe kitty tube and cover with the straw. **Q: Does the burning plastic smell go away? I bought this earlier this year, but im just now using the heating pad. Ive had it plugged in for about a day.** A: I haven't noticed the smell. I'm assuming it went away. The cats don't mind it. The weather here can be nasty, especially with our drenching rain that blows sideways, temperature extremes etc. I have two of the kitty tubes which works out well. The single problem I had was due to a big old possum taking one over. Lifting the top off to clean I discovered the culprit. He played possum--even when at last I dropped a small bucket of cold water on him. I ran with the critter inside to the edge of my porch and tossed it off. The possum escaped running as fast as he could. I lost my balance and fell off the porch on top of the shelter--ouch! Despite the potential for damage, the tube fared better than us --myself and the possum. The shelter has been free of critters since that one episode. When I had a question for customer service they were prompt and so incredibly kind. I did not have any problems, I had a question and customer service was outstanding. Highly recommend you purchase this product for any kitties that live outside. Chicago had a brutally cold winter and the stray/feral kitty my aunt feeds was thrilled to have a warm and toasty kittytube house to curl up in and call her own. Thank you Kittytube for being so innovative and awesome to the poor cats that must live outside in such harsh conditions.
