No Leaks 2 years later.
The American Standard replacement shower valve fitting solved my problems of leakage behind the valve and down into the wall. While I'm not a fan of this design-It was an exact fit & replacment at about the same cost (slightly higher actually) than my box store-who didn't have it in stock. Easy to replace if your handy and the quality you expect from American Standard.

Yes I did it.
So I went online to see if I could find this part for my shower handle. I found it. I installed this in approx five minutes. The hard part was turning off the water in our house in order to install this. That is how easy it was to replace this part. And I am the wifey! Girl power!!!

Perfect fit on American Standard
I’ve been needing to replace this cartridge for over 10 years! Why did I wait so long? I viewed a few YouTube videos and it was easy. My American Standard valve is a single control, bath/shower valve that rotates to turn the water on and adjust for temperature. That is important because the handle has teeth that matches up with a toothed, round stem receiver on the valve. Valves that open when the handle is lifted, have a rectangular stem receiver with a slot for a set screw that locks the handle onto the valve stem. For this, you would need a different American Standard cartridge. My shower valve works like new again and I didn’t have to replace my old valve or call a plumber.
