If it rains into the fountain then what is the purpose of the distilled water if it will get mixed with rain water ?

You have to change the water of this fountain periodically and use distilled water to avoid scale build up.

Where is the cord to plug it in located ? Does the one side look more realistic than the other? Both sides finished or is one side obviously fake?

The cord is on the pump which sits inside where the water goes. Every part of it, except the bottom, looks finished. Last year was our first year with this and we are very satisfied other than how difficult it is to get the pump in and out to properly clean the pump. Also, we don't use the lights because that cord made it even more difficult to install/uninstall the pump, so we pulled the light cord thru and out of the way.

Do you have to fill with distilled water? Or is regular water ok?

Yes. We recommended the use of distilled water on this fountain to avoid scale buildup.
