what are the dimensions of this filter? I know you cut it but if it isn't wide enough or long enough that doesn't help.

This is what it says on the product page: Cut-to-fit activated charcoal filter sheet, 16 x 48 inch material, thin 1/16 inch thickness.

Can it be used on a standard A/C air filter or is it too thick for that?

It is too thin in single layer application.you would multiple layers, depending on the thickness of your current standard air filter. The thickness that I purchased is 1/16 of an inch thick.

Can you use this item inside a carbon filter for grow tent

This is .25 inch thick and will cut to size, so if thickness is compatible with your system, then yes.
