Perfect trimmer for facial hair. Easy to use

Bought this when I realized my fancier Wahl lithium-rechargeable trimmer 9854, bought 10 yrs ago, developed problems I knew would put it out of action for a while; v.i. repair details. This disposable battery trimmer was a fine substitute, uses same size snap-on guides (more or less, guides fit both sloppily) and does the beard trimming I need. Speed is excellent, and batts last a long time. It's a bit noisier than my old model, but I like that the hard plastic handle doesn't accumulate hair clippings the way the rubber-like handle-sheath of the 9854 does! It has a little closer depth of cut also, so it does a better job at getting 'stubble' length I prefer. So most days I'm still using this cheaper model vs. old one. Model 9854-600 repairs: battery was showing signs of weakening -- audibly slower speed and cutting power, deteriorating quickly after a re-charge. I opened unit, identified li-ion cell size (exact dimensions quite uncommon), ordered new one ($10 for two), rewired it in. While open I replaced broken plastic piece in cutting head that translates motor rotation to linear blade vibration. Had to buy blade-replacement kit to get this part (have a spare blade now), but price was still a fraction of cost to replace whole unit.

This is the best beard trimmer I’ve ever owned. Battery powered and it lasts a long time. Attachments are easy to clean. This thing is built like a brick, but it’s small and compact. I ended up buying another one after losing my first one in a move. I hope they never stop making this.

I've been using Wahl trimmers like this one for 40 years to keep my beard neat and to do little touch-ups on my hair. They've been generally satisfactory. I bought one with a built-in rechargeable battery in 2017 which lasted 6 years before the battery became unable to hold a useful charge. Its replacement was a supposedly-identical model but the old combs didn't fit (very annoying) and this one lasted only 1 year: The battery is still fine but there's something wrong with the motor. I purchased this model recently because I wanted to use my own rechargeable batteries instead of some built-in thing that could wear out and wasn't easily replaced; and it was about ten bucks less expensive than the otherwise-identical model with the built-in battery. The combs from my last Wahl trimmer (the one that lasted only 1 year) fit. I don't have a beard at the moment but it's doing a good job keeping the weird stray hairs on my head under control between professional haircuts. It would be nice if this one lasted more than a single year. Fingers crossed. I don't expect any mechanical device to last forever and it's not as if these things are expensive. But I'd still like to get at least 6 years out of this trimmer before having to look for a replacement due to some kind of failure. We'll see...

Very good at the beginning, but it wears out very quickly. It didn’t last even 3 months and started pulling hair and cutting poorly. It loses its sharpness fast.

Works great when I cut my husbands hair. Not very noisy and the grip is good.

I purchased this in Dec 2025 - mostly for travel use. I was attracted to the fact that it requires 2 AA so I wouldn't have to worry about forgetting to pack the charger. After almost 7 months, I believe I can offer a review. For the first three months, it did what it was supposed to. I mostly use this trim my beard to a short stubble. Unfortunately, around the fourth month, it became more and more useless. 1) The self-sharpening blades is a lie, plain and simple. Even when I used the oil which came with the product, its ability to sharp consistently diminished. 2) The on/off switch developed an annoying quirk. When new, all I had to do was move it to the on position. Around the fourth month of use, I had to hold the switch just a few millimeters before the "fully on" position. If I did not do that, the full charge did NOT go to the blades. And, yes, I used new batteries. If I tried to place the button in this new position, it would simply slide back to "off" mode. 3) I genuinely think most of the 5-star reviews on this product are either bots or people who wrote their reviews after a few days worth of use. Well, of course it's going to work when new! My prior Wahl was a trusty plug-in charger type which lasted well over 5+ years. I'm now debating if I should purchase another Wahl (plug-in charger this time) or move on and try something else.

works really well, simple to use and long battery life .. good to take away in your travel kit. Beard trim, leg shave, eyebrow trim .. all quick and easy. Very happy with it.
