There is absolutely no difference in the shape or size of the shells as far as I can tell. **Q: Would yoy consider selling a console back plate in the same black finish as the soft touch grip black joycon housings?** A: Yes, the soft touch black full set shell is expected to be in stock in late July，please stay tuned! **Q: On my son's switch, the trigger stoppe working on one of the joy cons. Will using these shells help that problem without having to buy completely new?** A: If the issue is a simple mechanical problem with the trigger or the spring resetting the trigger then it is possible that opening it up may help to fix the problem. At the very least it may reveal some kind of debris or obstruction that can be cleaned/removed to help fix it. In truth, you do not necessarily need this set in order to open it up and take a look. If I recall correctly, the set comes with new buttons, but you re-use the springs in the controller, but it's been a while since I swapped my controller shells so I can't recall at the moment. However, if the issue is with the connection on the motherboard from that specific input, it becomes a bit more complicated to fix with the potential need to find replacement parts and/or perform minor soldering work. At which point it may be more practical to purchase a new joy-con altogether. As for these shells, they are a wonderful product in terms of aesthetics, texture, and performance. There may be minor flaws in shape and fit, but they are hardly noticeable once installed. The greatest bonus is the experience of opening up the controller and seeing how it all works together. The videos are a HUGE help. I would say that if you are willling to give it a shot, try investing in a mini screwdriver set and WATCHING Extremerate's videos on the joy-con shell replacement. You will be able to see how everything SHOULD look. If you open up the controller and find something wrong, you may be able to determine what is causing the button to fail. If you feel that this may be too much effort, I would say that you are better off buying a new joy-con than dealing with the process of opening up the controller. It is NOT a process that should be rushed, and deserves great level of attention to detail. I hope this helps you come to the best decision for your situation.
