Great!
I took it hunting the first time this year for elk season. I carried approximately 55 lbs in the pack. It is very comfortable and highly adjustable. I only have two minor complaints. One is a small squeak I can’t seem to identify that occurs when moving. I believe it’s the frame next to my ear. The other is that all of the straps can be overwhelming at first. But that’s how you get all of the adjustments. Overall the pack is solid with no hot spots and can carry quite a load. I particularly like the removable hood and front pack as well as the rifle sling.

Best pack for the price!
Best hunting pack available! I hunt in Idaho, and was out last weekend, 10/17-18/2015 and it was fantastic! It easily accommodated my 100oz hydration bladder, fleece scentlock jacket, rain coat, vest, and my food for the day, and the top part wasn't even half full. The complete bottom section held my survival stuff, 2 knives, a sharpener, 2 flashlights, jetboil and fuel, flares and countless other items. You won't be disappointed. IT WILL LAST! I ended up caught in a mini rockslide and essentially rode the pack the whole way down the 20some foot slide, not a tear or fabric wear on the pack! Totally worth it if you're going to be doing some serious hunting/hiking/camping combination trips!

This pack wins over Mystery Ranch Marshal
I tell everyone about this pack. It is so amazing!! I bought the Mystery Ranch Marshal and quickly found out that when you load the meat hauler, the straps you use to tighten your load is the same ones you use to hold your pack to the frame. So when I strapped down my 338 Lapua Rifle down inside the meat hauler area, I smash everything inside my pack when I tighten the bag straps to hold it steady. Then I saw the Alps OutdoorZ Extreme Commander X pack and it is awesome. You have separate tie down straps for the pack and what is inside the meat hauler. Now my rifle fits snug and tight and my pack is lightly strapped down to the frame with its own straps. Way to go Alps OutdoorZ. It is comfortable and tough. I wish I could give them 20 stars to rate this backpack.

This is a great pack. I was never sore from using this ...
Well I have this pack for 4 months now and I have used it on several hunting trips. I have loaded it down with approximately 40 lbs. I have taken several 5 miles hikes with it. This is a great pack. I was never sore from using this pack. A lot of thought went into this pack. It's a backpack, hunting pack, fanny pack. And a meat hauling pack. I can only comet on the use of this pack for a hunting pack. I plan to use this pack this fall for a backpack hunting trip. I am very positive this pack will work great. My only complaint is the chest strap. I just don't understand why these companies do not make the chest strap bigger. I am not that big of a person but the strap surly could use another 12 inches of material. My fix for this was I used on of the extra straps to extend the chest strap. Thanks to my daughter inlaw who did the sowing. Problem solved. Other than that this is a great pack. Very comfortable.

Great bag but...
The bag is very durable and don't really have to worry about what you put in it, it will stretch a bit. Downsides are a lot if you are planning on using it as a 4 day hunt or more. First thing i noticed was it seems like there is not enough space, for sure you have to organize the best you can. Second was if you have a water bladder and you have it in its designated spot it tends to fill like a ball and pushes into your back and gets uncofertable after awhile so you tend to drink more water. 3rd is if you have a spotting scope the hole is not big enough so you have to slide it in, it can be a pain getting it in and out especially when your pack is full...for sure it's going to take some time and can be noisy doing it. 4th which leads into 5th which is the compression straps are not long enough and the bottom ones either so if you want to use the bow/rifle holder your pack has to be not be bulky, you can get away with the rifle maybe but not a bow to strap it in securely. The holder seems to be to long and cant close the gap enough so if you use it you will have to be very careful taking your pack on and off so you don't mess anything up with a bow, it has your bow/rifle hang lower than the pack it would be easier if you have a second person to help you. 6th is the straps that go around your shoulders are to small and are painful after awhile especially if you have weight in the pack, but is not as noticeable if you have some cushion like a thickish jacket or something. 7th is if you want to attach a pistol or bearspray you have to fiddle with it to get it in the strap because there is just enough room to fit it so it's a tight squeez, when you put the pack on it is hard to reach and will take a little bit of time to get it out successfully. 8th is the pack is just heavy and makes everything else feel heavier than it actually is and can be a little awkward to pick it up and handle it around. Oh and 9 when you fill up the brain the top pocket gets reduced so only thing that fits is paper or something that is flat and is flexible. Other than that the pack is very well built and can handle any amount of weight you can. It does squeak but it's nothing louder than what you walk.

Professional Hunting Pack!
I have gone through several backcountry packs over the years, this is by far the most versatile. I use my packs for more than backcountry hunting like traveling, camping, whatever. Having a pack that allows me to have multiple carrying options is very important. Also, cost vs. value, the Commander X beats them all! Like the color too…kind of burnt out of the typical camo packs. This pack has a fresh look to it.I plan on heading back to Europe again for a few weeks…can’t wait to use my new pack! I can head out on day hikes with the smaller pack.
