Monterey - Sluggo - Wildlife and Pet Friendly - Snail & Slug Killer, OMRI Listed for Organic Gardening - 2.5-Pounds

Works great on snails, but my puppy keeps eating it. Last night she somehow got the whole thing open and spread it all over everywhere and was licking it up when I found her. Day before yesterday she did the same with coffee grounds. It says this stuff is non-toxic, but also hazardous to humans and pets. I really doubt it would hurt a dog much--this isn't the first time one of my dogs has eaten a little of it, and nothing ever came of it. But she's a young puppy and still only 30something pounds, and I really wasn't sure how much she ate before I found her scarfing up the mess, so just to be safe, I did the hydrogen peroxide trick anyway (you force-feed the dog hydrogen peroxide, and they vomit. I can't even count how many times I've had to do this to dogs over the years. It works every time.). Anyway, so now I have to buy more. But it's totally worth it! My petunias are beautiful right now, blooming healthy and lush and bright, whereas they were chewed down to the nubs of their leaves when I first put this stuff in the flower bed. As far as I can tell, my main problem is with snails. They are voracious and they wouldn't leave my petunias alone before I got this stuff, and they were even starting in on my begonias, which they're usually not all that interested in. I noticed a couple years back that the slugs and snails around here really love both tomatoes and petunias, both of which are in the nightshade family (I only knew this because I realized the two plants look sort of similar when they're very young, and they seem to be the favorites of local slugs and snails). So maybe this year I'll be able to grow my tomato plants before the slugs and snails completely massacre them. Or maybe it'll just keep the slugs and snails at bay while the stupid tomato worms take over :( We'll see!

I live in the PNW, slug central. It rains here all the time and the climate is built for them. I also have a pond, with beautiful, gigantic, fat, lily style foliage surrounding it. They were eating everything though. it was so bad, that when we would turn leaves over - we could find 20 easily in a matter of minutes. I didnt like the idea of any sort of pesticides because we have dogs and I have targeted my garden to wildlife (birds etc). I read the reviews on sluggo and saw it was animal safe, so I decided to try it. It began working instantly. I had to cut all of the previously damaged leaves out and as soon as I applied sluggo all over the garden, I stopped seeing any new damage when new growth came in. I have a large yard and i can tell when I need to re-apply. I wont see damage for a couple months and then all of the sudden, a few holes here and there because they are back, so I do a big re-application. Birds do eat it, which is irritating. it doesnt seem to hurt them, but if you have a large yard - I actually moved my bird feeder to a different location, so birds wouldnt hit the parts of the yard that I want the Sluggo to remain in. So this stuff totally works, but.. the snails will eat it, and the birds will eat it - so you have to re-apply through the season. I went through 2 bottles in my back yard this year. Totally worth it though. my plants look great. I will continue to use. i just sprinkle it all over the plant.. on top of leaves and a lot around the base. in my beds - I sprinkle it throughout. I'm in Seattle, it rains a lot.. doesnt seem to affect the pellets ability to do it's thing.

I use Sluggo to keep the slimy guys from chomping my gardens to pieces. The product works. The reason I am giving only 4 stars isn't the quality of the product. It's that the container I paid dearly for says 2.5 lbs on it. The entire top portion of the container is empty. The seal wasn't tight and that caused me to make a quick weight measurement on the item before I used any. The entire thing...including the plastic container was only 2 pounds on my digital scale. Um...that isn't right. Since I need it I am using it but am not happy with this.

For a couple of years, I had a bad mole problem so when I discovered this product, decided to give it a go - figured, get rid of the food source of the moles. I would say after the first application, with me overseeding in the destroyed area of my lawn with fertilizer, the mole activity dropped significantly and my grass started to grow in again. In two weeks I dropped some more Sluggo right before a rain and that did the trick - the moles are gone. Important to note that Sluggo will actually protect new seed and will break down into a fertilizer because it's organic. That part of my lawn seriously has never looked better! I could hardly keep up with the new lawn growth! I have started to see mole activity again a couple of months later so will start dropping it again. Instructions say to use it no more than twice a month and to keep at it. I would say, depending on the mole issue to drop it until you can say they are gone - they may come back so keep Sluggo on hand!

Let me start out by saying that I purchased a new home last year, and spent several months plotting and planning my garden for this Spring. I was so excited when seedlings started germinating, and beautiful foliage began emerging. But my excitement quickly turned to horror as an unseen enemy began devouring all of my leaves, berries and making small seedlings disappear entirely. I thoroughly checked every leaf on every plant, but was left scratching my head when no pests were to be found. Then one rainy morning, my enemy finally revealed itself... Slugs! I must have killed over 20 before rushing off to work, and decided that I would tackle the problem that evening. I was in shock that evening when I plucked and squished over 100 of the slimy critters from my veggies and flowers. I quickly realized I was in over my head when I repeated this process over the next couple of nights, and I was not making a dent into the population. Over the next several days, I tried many suggested slug control remedies such as beer traps, crushed eggshells and coffee grounds. Nothing worked effectively. Then one morning, I received an e-mail from a group I am a member of called "The Big Bug Hunt" with a headline about spring pests. I went to the section regarding slugs, and they mentioned this pesticide-free product called Sluggo. I had been very skeptical of slug baits because I won't put poisons near my food crops, and had heard they kill other wildlife as well. Sluggo being an organic alternative, I went ahead and ordered a bottle and when it arrived, I watered and lightly sprinkled the pellets around every area that I had seen slugs. Im not kidding when i say that I have not seen a slug in any of these areas in over a week! It almost seems too good to be true! I have only found a couple slugs on my entire property since the application of Sluggo, and those were in areas I didn't treat... far away from my veggies and flowers.

I have had bug issues for months and 1) could not figure out what was eating my plants and 2) did not want to use any harmful pesticides. Luckily, a person who worked in the landscaping industry told me what the possible cause was based on the "bite" marks on the leaves...snails and/or slugs. I did some research for wildlife/bird/pet safe deterrents and Sluggo came up as the #1 option. Well, not only did I see almost immediate results but I can rest assured that it is not harming anything other than the slugs & snails. I now use it periodically to ensure that there are no more infestations. All in all, a GREAT product for your plants and the environment.

Only reason I'm giving it three instead of five stars is that this really isn't anything like a permanent solution, the way maybe diatomaceous earth would be (by comparison). That docks it one star. It loses one more star from me because while it says "for organic gardening" this product is actually not on the list of products approved for the "organic" label. I don't think it should be marketed that way if it isn't actually organic (okay it is made from organic compounds, but this really is a chemical that you might not want to eat). It is a relatively new product, and many people who know more than I feel it is fine to use, and will be approved for organic farmers soon. That's the only reason it didn't lose more stars for this questionable marketing language. I did go ahead and use it, and it really did reduce if not eliminate the snail population in my garden pretty much overnight. I had a huge problem this season...really running rampant and brutalizing especially eggplant and pepper plants. This stopped that right away, and then once all the pellets had dissolved after a day or two, I sprinkle in some diatomaceous earth from time to time to keep them out, and I have had very little problem with the snails since.

My garden was getting annihilated by slugs. After the first time I put this out in the evening, I went out at 1am with a flashlight to see what was going on. There were over a dozen slugs in my two 4x4 raised gardens, plus more on the outside. I'm not sure if they were specifically attracted to the Sluggo, or if it was that crazy every night lol. But I left them to their snack. The next night, there were about half as many slugs, and the following night, only a couple. 4 nights after I put it out there were no slugs at all. I keep replenishing it every couple of days, and so far I'm very happy. It's extremely easy to use, no measuring, just sprinkle it around were you see/don't want slugs. I like that I don't have to worry about my dog around it, or contaminating my edible plants. I feel like my poor vegetables are finally going to get a chance to grow, and I hope they can make up for lost time.
