It only chimes on the hour, which is enough for me. The chime is the sound of a cardinal bird, not a cuckoo clock sound. It has a light sensor which stops the chiming once the room becomes dark, so it doesn’t wake you up at night. I have had it for a few months now and it keeps perfect time.

A: No, but you could put something over the sensor to block it if you like.

A: No its not at all. The 2 c's are for the bird and the double A is for the time. But its not heavy at all

**Q: Is the 12" height based on the height when used on a mantel or the hanging height with the hanging pendulum?**
A: It is about 12" sitting without the pendulum and the pendulum hangs about 3 or 4 inches

I have two clocks that I received for Christmas two years ago. The second hand stopped working on both. I replaced with batteries and they still don't work. I would not purchase this item.
