RVBX: Ten Years of Red vs. Blue (Blu-ray)

I am actually surprised I was able to find this at a decent/normal price and not the $400+ ebay sellers are selling it for. Always enjoyed the early seasons (not so much the newer ones) and the fact the company is shutting down would probably make these very hard to find.

The discs in the set are great - the first ten seasons of RVB, what more could you ask for? The box itself, however, is flimsy. It arrived a little scuffed on all of the corners, and the discs seem to fall out of it. In fact, when I opened the plastic wrap for the first time, two discs came tumbling out. However, this is a STEAL of a deal to get the discs. Definitely not something you’d want to store them in when traveling, and it might be a good idea to buy some cheap DVD holders and custom-make little packages for each of the seasons. However I can’t complain too much, it’s economical and the packaging sure is pretty, even if it’s a little flimsy.

Just some minor issues. It comes in a paper box case so it doesn't come in a plastic box case as advertised. Secondly, whoever packed my disks didn't put them in all the way so they arrived loose (thank God they didn't get scratched) and finally it's supposed to come with a collectible booklet which it never came with. All in all, still worth the nostalgia.

I've watched the first 5 seasons of this box set so far and been very please with it. I started watching RvB back in the middle of season 2. I've previously purchased the first 5 seasons on DVD and comparing the two and web version, there are a few minor differences. Some good examples:Pros:- Audio levels are...level. HOLY COW! I can't remember the amount of times I would need to grab my remote to turn up the audio for certain characters and during certain scenes and vice versa. A perfect example is the very first episode of the series where Church and Tucker are sitting on a cliff spying on the reds. Audio spikes in the previous online and DVD versions are horrible. My speakers would crack/pop. This time they finally fixed this problem, which is good becasue there is no excuse for it on a 10 season box set on Blu-ray.Cons:- Certain audio clips...were edit/adjusted/cut. Ex: during a part in the show a sticky grenade is thrown by Donut onto the tank/Shiela while Tex is in it. Church is attempting to shoot the grenade with a sniper rifle while cursing. The cursing is cut out...which almost eliminates the point of having that scene at all.Ultimately the RvB in this box set is what you've grown to love. They've just done some editing. Some for good and some not so good. If you haven't seen the series this is a great set to pick up. If you have and don't have this set, you should pick it up. It's worth every penny.

Still just as funny as ever, brings back the first time I heard some of these skits. Jokes never get old.

Writing this review in 2022 is bittersweet as RT is now a shadow of it's former self.RvBX collects the first 10 years of RvB and, this to me, really encapsulates the core of internet culture and ambition. With nothing but frat boy jokes and the back drop of a popular video game; Rooster Teeth was able to create a multi-media company from this series alone.I don't think this box set will create any new fans buying this out on a whim as I find a lot of the jokes ageing poorly but for existing fans or those that grew up with shouting abuse through a 360 wired headset you'll get a lot from this Blu-Ray Collection.Rooster Teeth had prided itself on extra content and it shows from the menus, to the audio commentaries for every season, extra footage of the creators going to conventions, and even bonus videos such as the bumpers to BareNaked Ladies concerts with audio commentary from the lead singer Ed Robertson.There's so much extra content that you just don't get from watching the online videos whether on YouTube or on the Rooster Teeth site that the extras alone warrants the price of this collection.However if you're expecting anything beyond the first 10 years i.e. from season 14 onwards then you're out of luck. But to me, that is a bonus as this was the RvB that the founders of RT: Burnie Burns and Matt Hullum wrote and directed respectively and this was the golden age of them pushing machinima to the brink and utilising their efforts as film makers and writers to make something groundbreaking from just a couple of Xboxes and a capture card

So happy to find a great used deal on this set. Delivered fast and in near new condition. If you're familiar with HALO and Red vs Blue then no explanation is needed. If not, then explanation is...difficult. Check some out on the Rooster Teeth website if you're curious.

NOTE: As mentioned in a previous review, the discs are region free, and can confirm they work on my UK PS4.Would highly recommend fans of the series, to spend the extra cash to get this Box Set, but it is very funny and clever series from the first episode, if you’ve never watched before and wanted to check it out.The retouching of the first series for the Blu Ray release makes it, and every other series, look great, and having almost all the shorts/special episodes with the extras, adds even more.Only downsides I had were mildly cosmetic (copyright warnings/company logos in SD not HD, and the card that holds the disc holders, is abit more flimsy than I was expecting), so overall a great product.Arrived very quickly, and in perfect condition too.
