Take your Backgammon game to the next level
I used to think I was pretty good at backgammon, and that when I got stuck behind a prime it was due to bad luck. Since reading this book, I'm the one blocking my opponent behind a prime, and kicking butt in the process. It really has improved my game immensely. The examples provided are fairly easy to follow, except that on numerous occasions in the book the board numbers are wrong, or don't match the images. You can easily figure out what the author meant, but a bit more attention to detail would be nice. Also, it's sometimes a bit tricky to see what's happening due to the order of the images (they'll show the board after the move being discussed, instead of before (and possibly after if necessary, though i'd prefer just to see before than after personally).Regardless of the above, the advice given is excellent and has improved my game a lot. If only it could improve my dice throwing skills :)

Great Book for players wanting to take the next step.
True beginners might need a simpler book, although there are some introductory concepts at the beginning. However, if you have any familiarity at all with the game, this is a great book to illustrate a several important concepts to take your game to the next level. I found the way he demonstrates the application of principles within the context of several games to be very helpful and less abstract.

Best book for beginners
Backgammon champ Bill Robertie does an excellent job of presenting the basics — and a little more — to the beginning or novice player; and not only verbally, but with the board/checker positions clearly displayed, so you can learn from it even without your own board in front of you.

Blackgammon for grown-ups.
If you think backgammon's just about rolling dice and pushing checkers around the board, think again! Bill Robertie is perhaps one of the foremost authorities on the subject. If you are in any way interested in taking your game to the next level, this book is for you. However be warned this is not a beginner's guide, if you need a gentler introduction, look elsewhere.

Good introduction to the game
Includes three sample games including discussions of basic strategy (which all players should know), followed by basic strategies for using the doubling cube in money games, and some trickier elements of checker play not obvious to a novice player. Describes club and tournament play but doesn’t get into the strategic details of those in this book.

Good intro to the most fundamental aspects of Backgammon
It gives you a good intro to how the most fundamental aspects and terms in Backgammon.I would have liked - as I wrote in my review of "Backgammon for serious players" - to see some more in-depth explanations about how certain technical things are reasoned about. Just discussing from a given position in a game cuts that insight down a bit.

Moves are backwards for me
The way I play Backgammon is to move my pieces anti-clockwise, while my opponent moves clockwise. This book is written for those who learned to move in the opposite direction. I can't adjust readily.

Interesting
Enjoyed reading this. In the short term though it has lead to me having less success in games with others on my app. I think I took his advice to be aggressive too much on board!!

Very basic
This is a good book, but really it should be made clear that it's for absolute beginners. "Backgammon for Dummies" is way better, as is "Backgammon for Losers". I'm aware that Robertie is a BG superstar, but this book doesn't represent that status.
