Perfect Toddler Shoes
Some may flinch at the idea of spending $40 on a pair of shoes for a kid who is barely walking (I know I did). I decided to take my son to a shoe store to try some shoes on, with the intention of just discovering his size and buying some cheapie shoes. The salesman suggested the Keen Newport H2. When I saw my son walk in those shoes, I knew we had to get them. He was a brand new walker at the time, but the H2s didn't get in the way - in fact, they seemed to help his gait. He has since worn the heck out of those shoes for five months in all kinds of weather. Here are my favorite qualities of the Newport H2: 1. Quality - tough, yet comfortable. Sturdy but flexible soles, cushy insoles, comfy stretch fabric that lines the uppers. The fit is so perfect. I tried some cheaper imitators from Target and Old Navy, but they either didn't fit properly, or were so cheaply made that they looked like they would fall apart quickly. Newport H2s look better, and hold up better (even after washing). 2. Washing - so easy! Wash on cold with detergent and air dry. Consider using an old toothbrush and mild soap to get any gunk out of the footbed, but that is the hardest it gets. Even a one year old will get their shoes filthy, so consider washability a must. 3. Design - perfect for beginning walkers and growing feet. The rubber sole grips the floor and protects tender feet while still being flexible. Its toe cap prevents "road rash" and toe-stubbing. The Velcro ankle strap opening allows for a snug fit, while still allowing easy entry. (I tilt the shoe to the side to get the big toe in first, then twist to make sure the little toes don't get caught.) The heel strap helps get a perfect fit and avoids folding under. I will continue to buy these shoes as my son gets older (and for successive children). One warning in use, though: when you go out in the sun and put on sunblock, remember to put it on your child's feet before you put their shoes on. Otherwise, they get a really funny tan line. ;)

Sturdy. The best summer shoe... ever!
These are fantastic. The fit is easily adjustable for a wide variety of feet. My son has average width feet and I have wide width feet and they are comfortable on both of us. Socks are optional when the weather gets cooler (because neither of us like any other shoes as much as we love these.) They are awesome when they get wet because they dry well. We wash ours in the washing machine regularly. They rarely get stinky (even with daily wear and we only wear these shoes in the spring and summer) but they do get dirty. We prefer bright colors so the washing machine restores them to that "new" look. They are always outgrown before the tread is worn out. They are awesome for traversing rocky rivers, hiking trails, and the playground. These also work well for school. I'm not sure if the soles are marketed as non marking but neither of my sons have ever had a problem wearing these for gym class and they've been worn for several years between the two of them. They are also safe for bikes and scooters with the study rubber toe covers. My sons used these to stop their bikes and scooters as they wereb learning and they never managed to do more than scuff them. They are also easy to get on and off. These are the first shoes either of my sons were able to get on and off by themselves in a reasonable amount of time. This is important because my younger son always removes his shoes upon entering a vehicle. These are his favorite shoes but, for him, barefoot is always best. At the time of this review my older son has had 2 pairs of this style, my younger son is on pair 5 currently, and this is my first pair in this style but second year wearing them. (I fit in kids sizes and adult sizes. I don't notice a difference in quality.) We are an outdoorsy family so they see a lot of use.

Loved by people and...turtles?!
How do I love thee? Let me count the ways. PRICE: I am an adult woman who typically wears a size 8 shoe. I love that these Keen's for kids in a six fit my feet perfectly! I tend not to like the color options on a lot of women's shoes, and these brown and orange sandals are definitely my style! The kid's shoes, while often very similar in style to the women's, are typically a lot cheaper. I think I got these for just under $40 which is a fantastic price for such quality. DURABILITY: I've had these shoes for a couple of years now and have worn them almost exclusively during the warmer months and they are still in great shape! I'll probably get a new pair this year, not because I actually feel like they need to be replaced, but just so I might try them in another color. I can't believe that they still look and wear almost exactly the same as when I first got them! (Well, I can - that's why we buy Keens, right?) FIT: The fit on these is absolutely perfect. They are my "Goldilocks" shoes! Not too narrow, not too small, not too big, not too wide, just perfect. VERSATILITY: I can do ANYTHING in these shoes!!! Hike through the creek and woods with my dogs? No problem. Exercising and training dogs at the shelter? No problem. Walking around the city all day? No problem. These have been through mud and woods and streams and they still look and feel amazing. My feet and legs and back are never sore after I wear them, even when I've had them on and been on the go all day! The only thing about these shoes is that they can, like any shoes, get a little smelly. I usually will rinse them with warm water and vinegar once a month, and then every few days just sprinkle a bit of baking soda on the soles and problem solved. Gosh, I love these shoes. Apparently, turtles love them as well? My brother had his turtle Crush out when I was visiting while wearing it and she "bee-lined it," (IOW, moved as fast as a turtle can move) and immediately tried to procreate with them, perhaps because they looked a little like her. You be the judge.

Perfect river shoe, not just for girls!
We have been on a hunt for close-toed summer sandals/ river shoes FOREVER, and these were the winner! The soles are nice and flexible, with a rubber inner sole and neoprene upper. At 2 years old, he can't quite get them on himself, but the pull tab on the back and the adjustable ankle strap make on/off very easy. They have quickly become our every day shoe, including routine day care activities and weekend adventures on rocky trails and splashing in the river. After ordering and sending back 2 other pairs, my husband said "I don't care how much they costs, these shoes are superior." Which is very high praise for him. I can see these being our go-to shoes for years to come. A couple things: 1.) Keen sizes run SMALL! If your kiddo is normally a 5, go for a 6. We are juuuust about to grow out of a 5 in Stride Rite sneakers, and the 6 is Keen fits well, with room to grow (but not too much). The 5 in Keens were much too small. Like, couldn't get them on at all small. We tried a 6 in OshKosh and Carters and they were HUGE. 2.) Rant: This particular color/print is listed as a GIRLS color, which I think is really silly. We bought them for our boy, and they don't look the least bit "girly" (whatever that means). I really wish Amazon and Keen, as well as all other retailers, would just do away with gender divided clothing! Is a 2 year old boy's foot shaped any differently than a 2 year old girl's? I don't think so! And we almost missed out on this awesome print because of it being in the girl's section! Especially since it seems the Keen sandals are really limited in sizes on Amazon, if we had stayed in the boy's section our options would have been black (boring!) and camo (yuk!). If you are looking for this shoe in other colors/sizes, I recommend searching "Keen Toddler Newport H2" in the main Amazon search bar and then just not paying attention to whether it says boys or girls. 3.) Newport vs Seacamp: We previously ordered the Seacamp (size 5, we didn't keep them because they were too small). I went with Newport because they were the only ones I could find in a 6 with a color I liked, but having handled both I can say the Newport soles and upper are MUCH more flexible. I think the Newport are wider too, but I can't say for sure because the Seacamp were a size smaller. 4.) The Smell: After a couple weeks, Bub's feet have gotten a little stinky. I know this is common with rubber soled shoes that sometimes get wet, so I'm not too worried about it, but I will probably be washing these in the washing machine/ dishwasher every week or two to keep the stinky feet at bay.

Excellent Shoes for Adventurous Toddlers
These shoes are perfect for the crazy, fun loving toddler. They fit well and are easy to get on and off thanks to a single velcro strap at the top. The rest of the shoe's fit is done via a durable cord with cord lock. The fit is excellent. The functional design of the shoes is fantastic. If you know about the adult Keen, then you are aware of the great design. The shoes have protected toe boxes and are equally effective in and out of water. The shoe transitions from trail to water and back to trail without issue. The shoes have good support while also having good cushioning. They dry quickly and are always comfortable, evan after getting wet. I've worn mine all day at water parks, in and out of the water and my feet were comfortable all day. The kids shoes have some small adjustments to make them even better and safer for kids, one is the velcro strap I mentioned earlier. The other is that the heel is enclosed and protected, where the adult shoe has an open heel. This keeps sticks and rocks from fining your toddler's soft heels while they play. My toddler also wears his all day at the water park, and is running around the yard at full speed that afternoon. He has worn them at the park and the closed heel design keeps the multch shards from getting into the shoes. The box toe design has plenty of space for my toddler's feet to flex and work without being squeezed or pinched. As a parent, I've had my toddler get shoes soaking wet by jumping in puddles, then we have wet shoes and socks the rest of the day until we get home, but these Keen are perfect all day shoes, no matter how many puddles he jumps in, or whatever he climbs or experiences at the playground or out shopping with us. I cannot recommend these shoes highly enough, especially if you find them on sale.

Sturdy, Comfortable, and Practical
I've had the same pair of Keen H2's for probably10 years. I have abused them and they are still extremely sturdy. The quality of construction and materials is impressive. While they are sandals, I considered them to be 3-season shoes when worn with socks. If the weather is dry I love wearing them with Merino wool socks in cold weather because they allow my feet to breath. They have comfortable insoles, good arch support and the wide, protected toe-box is highly effective at protecting both the shoe and the wearer. I am an adult male with small, wide, flat feet. I bought these because I am able to wear boys size 6 which is considerably less expensive than men's' sizes. I would say the quality of the boys shoe is comparable to men's but the length of the Velcro strap that secures the top of the tongue is nearly too short for my wider foot. This shouldn't be an issue for children with narrower feet. I can still wear them but now socks are out of the question. I have to say this style of Keens is one of the best value shoes I have ever purchased.

Great all-around shoe! Would recommend!
Love these! Just ordered a second pair! They are true to size. My daughter is in a size 4 and she has plenty of toe room to grow but they still fit. It took me a while to get her to wear them, so I came up with the idea to label them her “hiking shoes”. She finally picked them up to wear on our 1st big hike since buying them and she could not stop raving the whole time about how great and comfortable they were. She was able to do the whole hike up to the water and swim and climb on rocks with great traction and comfort and hike back. We hiked for around 4 hrs in total and no complaints about her feet, which is essentially unheard of for her! Since that day she has been asking every day if she can wear her “hiking shoes” to school, girlscouts everywhere! She is also constantly getting compliments on them! Just ordered a second pair for the summer! Awesome mom win!
