The door does seal next to the sliding glass door, for the most part, but there is a 1/4 inch opening between sliding door and pet door in just one area up at the top. I hung a pressure rod and two insulated curtains to attempt to keep as much cold out as possible. The flap is the biggest issues with air seeping through, but it serves my purpose. When I get home I take the door down, it just bends and I pull it out, then before I leave for work I put the pet door backup. I moved down from Alaska and I Would Not use this door up there, CA is fine. If you have the right kind of sliding glass door, mine is either to small or to big for the good pet doors, otherwise I would have bought a better one. The pet door keeps out just enough air to keep house warm, don't have a high energy bill. You can always try it and send back if you don't like it. The snaps on the flap all came off within a couple of months of buying the door, I had to jimmy rig to keep door on, I am not a good jimmy rigger, but I did a good job and working ever since. **Q: How large of a dog could fit through it? Would a labrador be able to use it?** A: No, it is a bit small of a door for a typical Lab (a Lab puppy, no problem). I would estimate that most medium-sized dogs should fit thru, but not anything larger. **Q: The Velcro that connects bottom panel to the middle one seems like not enough support if my dog hits the door a bit too hard. anyone had any issues?** A: I have had no problems with the vecrro, however I have the whole thing supported by a sliding screen on one side so the is no bend in the middle. **Q: I have a dual glass slider, would this work if wedged in between the two, and is it easy enough to take out that I could still get outside?** A: Very possible! Should be priced more at $40 if you just want something temporary for a few days then it would suit that purpose but nothing long term. Its very flimsy and does not secure tightly in your sliding glass door. Leaves cracks for bugs to get through and if a dog jumped on it like part of a door it would buckle and come apart at the Velcro fasteners. The bottom half kept coming disconnected from the Velcro fasteners when I picked it up to put in the door. Customers who have the old version can contact the company directly and get the 1 bottom panel replaced and a lock for no charge!!! I just got mine and it is great! A vast improvement, the bottom panel is much sturdier and I feel more secure that the patio door can be locked now!!!I was really excited for this to come back in stock! I signed up for a notification but I never got one that I can recall. I just happened to check and ordered it as fast as I could! We have a porch potty so I really wanted this so they could access it and just get some fresh air while we are away.First, I will start with assembly...I struggled with the length adjustment. I'm too short to measure the door frame and my tape only went to 75"! So I suggest two people if you got a friend. I was constantly up and down, up and down readjusting. I marked it with tape for easy reference when I have to take it apart.Install:Pretty lightweight so easy lift but sturdier than it looks at the top at least. I agree with the other reviewer who said it is flimsy at the bottom. You can't lock the door with it in place & our alarm system can't be set with up. Safety is a concern but we live above the ground floor besides if anyone did break in my dog would eat them alive so...Also there are gaps where air can escape because our alarm system sensor on the door frame.Use:Our dogs used it right away because we had a real dog door at our last place so they are used to it. I was worried they would be scared to use this one because it seemed flimsy and that would prevent them from using it. I expected it to come crashing down when they went through but it held up very well.Overall:I'm very happy that it is not permanent so perfect for renters! The cost is the same as a permanent one from Home Depot but if you rent this is the way to go. I can take my dogs to work most days so this gives me peace of mind when I can't and saves me the gas money of driving home at lunch or hiring a dog walker. I read they are developing a lock so the door will stay in place when you open the door. Hopefully the cost isn't too outrageous.
