Mrs. Jeffries & the Mistletoe Mix-Up: 29 (Victorian Mystery)

Mrs Jeffries Victorian Mysteries
I came across these books by accident - looking for a cheap read on my Kindle for a train journey. The stories are great - well written, funny (the actual detective is a bit bumbling and his servants actually solve the crimes which is a novel twist). You get a great detective story but also find out how people lived then. The books make you feel as if you're there - sitting in the kitchen, listening to the staff gossip and work out what happened then being out with their master and finding out how Victorian police worked - it's amazing that any crimes got solved at all!i love Luty Bell their eccentric American neighbour - a real Annie Oakley type - and her English butler who indulges his mistress at first when she helps them out but secretly enjoys it so much he gets more and more involved.Emily Brightwell makes Victorian daily life in a large household come to life - if i'd read these when i was at school maybe i'd have been more interested in my History lessons. Interesting, well written, funny and intriguing - everything a good detective story needs.
