Question 1

Does this test for color carrier traits? Merel in an english bulldog?

Accepted Answer

From what I saw in my genetic report, nothing there about color of a dog.

Question 2

What is the difference between this test and the other Wisdom Panel "Essential" test that is offered?

Accepted Answer

Wisdom Panel™ Essential
– $99.99
Tests for 350+ breeds, types, and varieties, 25+ genetic conditions, 35+ traits, and more.

Wisdom Panel™ Premium
– $159.99
The most comprehensive dog DNA test available. Screens for 200+ genetic conditions, 350+ breeds, types, and varieties, 35+ traits, and more.

The essential would definitely work. I chose the one that screened for more genetic conditions. It is just personal preference.

Question 3

Is it worth it to get the premium health & traits for the increased cost? I have an albino deaf pitbull with quite a few health problems

Accepted Answer

This test will give results for over 200 disease causing genetic mutations, unfortunately there is no way to know what to expect of a particular dog’s result without testing. We would recommend checking out the list of health tests included in order to decide if it would be worth it to you: https://www.wisdompanel.com/en-us/products/wisdom-panel-premium

Question 4

Does Wisdom Panel test for pit bull?

Accepted Answer

Yes, the Wisdom Panel dog DNA tests are able to detect bully breeds quite accurately; the important thing to keep in mind is that some bully breeds, and especially the American Staffordshire Terrier, are extremely diverse. This means that there are many different family lines and a huge range of acceptable weights (from 35 pounds to 135 pounds!) depending on breeder preference. In fact Wisdom Panel has identified so many different strains of the American Staffordshire Terrier that they have created multiple distinct genetic signatures for the breed and it is one of the most commonly found breeds in shelters and in the US today.
